In my opinion, the beginning of punk music spelt the end of true/good music. Good music as in people having the ability to express themselves with their musical instruments.

whoa buddy watch your mouth man. the ramones were the forefathers of punkrock and god they are way different from the greenday from today. Just because i dont listen to metal doesnt mean i go around criticizing metal.

My Chemical Romance is anything but emo.

ok emochick well you gained my respect even though i generally hate emo music. but to clear up a point My Chemical Romance is emo. they said it themselves. the article was featured in ultimate-guitar.com well they didnt deny that they werent an emo band but they were trying to justify themselves and show that emo music wasnt really that bad. In the end i feel your thoughts about songtitles / lyrics can be pretty subjective. After all you can use the black parade as an example but what if we talk about something like " i,m not okay ". name speaks for itself

Mr pinkyspider, my mouth is fine the way it is. If you want to list the Ramones as a punk band, then that is your prerogative. And since you're at it, you might as well add Iggy Pop and the Velvet Underground and why not add Captain Beefheart to the list too???

It is obvious that your mouth likes to stick its head into unnecessary areas. Think punk at its height and not at its inception if you're going to understand anything in this thread. FWIW, I've never heard of the Ramoness being punk band.

wadeva it is... emo still shite..... they are one sickening kiddos... emo 's are not sub-culture....

its hardly a discussion..

it deserves to be locked.

and the threadstarter deserves to be thrown rotten eggs.

kidding.

I think its totaly BULL!

Listening to angst filled music doesnt make you sad and depressed, though I don't listen to those bands also.

If its so, I would have killed the world already, seeing as how I listen to angry music......

@ PinkSpider: i get your point. thanks for putting a new point of view in my head. appreciate it. =) unlike some people who just stick to their own thinking and not change even when they know the other party is right. but just to add, the whole "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" was based on the death of Gerard and Mikey Ways' grandma. every single song.

i'm just really sick and tired of people calling us "emos". i mean, we just so happen to like the so called "emo" fashion. just like some people like the "jap" fashion. it's really as simple as that. doesn't mean that we wear band shirts and skinny jeans and eyeliner, we like to cut ourselves. people really need to change their mentality on that.

and i was on my way home from work this evening. everyone was staring at me like i'm something from outer space. i get stared at for just being myself! i mean, don't everyone say "it's best to just be yourself?" what if we are all just being ourselves? we just happen to like dark colored clothes and stuff. we're emo?

f*ck no.

So the Ramones are a punk band. Duh! And the RAnones are good musicians yah?

I'll youtube and see if I can find something that showcases their musicianship - any pointers?

Cheers

Looks like people are using Emo Music as a targeting board.
Long before Emo Music there were already people slashing their wrists except it was more taboo then. It was also more embarassing to be found out.
Secondly the reporter did not visit IMH a.k.a Woodbridge to find out whether the people seeking treatment/counselling for such distress that they need to cut themselves were affected by Emo Music or other reasons.
If so, he/she could have compiled a chart over the past years about the increasing trend of self inflected injuries due to distress. And prove that Emo Music is the link to increases.
Thirdly about that group of girls mass slashing their wrists because it is a trend does not wholly suggest Emo Music is to blame. They were perhaps following a trend which in my opinion is unhealthy.
Fourth Point, Please seek help/treatment. it is not good to self inflict injuries on yourself. Even though you may need to feel the physical pain to feel relief, it is not good for you.

Hmm.

Ian... Well regarding whether something is shite or not depends really. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I would say that in every generation, there has been some form of head-butting between two or perhaps three music genres. It seems like non-emo folk in general are just out to head-butt emo folk these days

However, personally I am finding it hard to appreciate emo as a musical genre. Before I was aware that the term to identify was "emo", I used to call it Punk-whine. Now don't flame me, punk fans.. I respect punk music in general.

However.. it was all the whining, whinging, self-deprication that turned me off. Is our generation dgoing to continue degrading itself by wallowing in self-pity? Whatever happened to standing up and facing the odds side-by-side with our brothers, sisters and "sticking it to the man"?

*shakes head*

Whether fashion has anything to do with emo, it doesn't concern me.

But I do feel emo is a weak excuse for people who give up on communicating with others. Just because people/ their parents do not agree with them, or the world's turning into some ugly place to leave in, they resort to cutting themselves(not necessarily lah), and writing poems, feeling all glum and sullen. IT'S NOT GOING TO HELP! If you want the world to change, thinking about it won't do a thing. You got to take up a stand for what you believe in, that emo attitude is not going to make things any better. Try talking to your parents, learn to give and take, life's not fair all the time. But there's always a rainbow after the rain, right? If your girlfriend left you, cry it out, i'm not saying that emotions mustn't flow.

My understanding of emo may not be as deep as others, but seeing so many emotional people on myspace, haha, it hasn't reflected very well on the entire term.

But please give Love and COMMUNICATION a second chance. It's worth it.

it's the passion for music.

listen to what you guys want. don't like emo, then just don't say anything.

music is universal right.

but to the extent of slitting the wrists writing suicide notes are simply stupid.

this wrist slitting already happened during the secondary school days especially among the girls. but see what they wear. they don't wear anything related to the whatever the guys are wearing now. and mostly are "ah lians" who do that stupid thing.

for what they wear, the bands are the trend setters. like skinny jeans, undersized t-shirts and sneakers.

so people followed.

HAHA! Any True EMo Here?

i got a few emo friends. Damn emo. but i see no wrist slit marks on them leh.

I think Emo Is more about Kissing guys.

I saw paul twohill kissing guy b4.
I saw youtube users kissing guy and put on video.
I saw EMo are worst then gays.

Is Emo Gay? anyone can tell me? I've been asking this for 2 times i think.

And emo who never kissed a guy on the lips b4? hehe
