My reply to James (ultrasound scam thread)

ShyamRaj, why register a company when you just want to DIY gig? Keep it simple.

its not gonna be a one off thing james. I want to form an organisation that will keep helping young bands in singapore . Its an on-going thingy. Basically we will help them and teach them to organise a DIY gig , give them the contacts, link them up with people and stuff..

You don't need a company/organisation to share these information. Why not just post them up on SOFT! I am sure there are some young bands on SOFT?

Nevermind, you go ahead and do your best. I am sure you know what you want to do.

LOL! I am on the right thread ShyamRaj and you are right. That is not important. All is cool now yeah? Heh... sweet...
I would love to help out honestly but I'm starting to gig more lately. I was enjoying my long break and then people start to talk about this p2p rubbish! I can stand this kind of bull! Having good intentions but smelling of sleaze all over him. So much for talking about creating a platform and promoting local music. This guy should start trying to organize some real gigs before telling young bands to surrender their IC! LOL! What law is this? Gangster is it?? LOL! I know you can handle him for sure! More power to the pp!

For the 15th March week I'll be at a club at CQ relieving when a band takes their week break. On the 17th I'll be busy the whole day recording for LnL, then radio with Soo after, then teach at EUss, then week after nightly gig. Hate it when they all come one time! Wait and wait, no gig, then one come, all come! Grrr.... would you happen to need a drummer, don't call me!!! I can't take it no more!!! But if you want to come say hi, pls do!!!

I'll definitely support Shyam.

Me as a musician understand those behind the curtain, appreciate their hard work. They deserve to be rewarded, they deserve to be paid, earn some profit for their hard work.

If you already did your research, your maths and find that they earn a lot more than they deserve, and you feel like they are taking advantage of you, then don't play.

And young bands, how young are you? 14? 16? To me, you are big enough to walk on your own. To make your own decision for your band.

To me, P2P gig is not wrong.
5 bands want to have a gig. They fork out money equally. Now, who amongst the 5 bands will do the organising part? All of them?

Now those tix those bands are selling for P2P organizers is something like contributing funds to make the gig happen. If you feel, the organizers are earning a lot more than they deserve, then don't support them. Keep it simple. You always have a choice. How loving are you to your band members?

Shyam Raj concept is not wrong either.

I feel every band should have a wise leader to decide for the band. Am i off topic here? :-D

Hey hardcore,

I guess Shyam's point about young teenagers(roughly 16) getting caught by the whole concept of paying to play is that... Many of these kids aren't rich. And c'mon, all of us weren't very smart when we were that age. We all made mistakes and sometimes, these mistakes hurt. Having to ask mom and dad for money to cover the cost of a gig or not having recess(food in the morning goes a long way!) or lunch for a few weeks is definitely not cool. It's also a bad way to start your music journey, losing money...

Many musicians are so passionate about their music that they will play any gig that comes their way. So some of them who don't have that many fans just yet, get trapped by the fine lines.

ahaha i havent gigged for SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Dear ShyamRaj,

What's new? After being around soft for these number of years, it's still the same old thing. You are not the first, many have come before you, proclaiming the same thing, screaming injustice. But who have actually successfully done anything which shows result?
Big talking shows for nothing without results and track records.

DIY gigs have being around forever, just that the generations have changed. Youths empowered with knowledge are now bold and ambitious. But youth always lack one thing, wisdom. Easy to be waylayed by temptation of monetary gains above intergrity.

DIY gigs used to mean pooling of money together to hold gigs. These days DIY gigs is more meaning to SCAM kids of their pocket money. This became the norm since the days of gauhaus.

I remembered a time, where there were groups who got fundings to support local bands and hold regular FREE gigs to promote local music. But this has become like what we call 'a dried up well'.

But bands themselves are largely to be blamed for this too. I remembered working with heartrock SG doing free gigs at East Coast Mac for one whole year, but finding bands were always difficult thing to do. Bands always prefer hip and trendy venues, even if it means forking out money to perform themselves.

I am not against DIY gigs if organisers are honest and bands get what they are paying for. Organiser must also make a cut in order to have staying power and become sucessful. But something is wrong when a young cunt is out to make bands pay a total of $5K and he pockets $2-3K, provides a crawling space venue, lousy PA system and soundman, and does a shoddy organising job.

What I heard, playden is one of the most cheap venue to rent as they support local art and they even got a drumset there already. Is it??

Can't agree more.....
