Morgan Amps

I love that thread too hahaha. Not any EL84 will sound Vox-ish man. Unless you consider ProJr and BluesJr by Fender Vox-ish?

My bad bro, that statement was over generalized =/ what i meant to say was that they are generally responsible for the chime we expect from vox amps?

Not sure. Top boost circuits tend to use EF86 which is still pretty chimey to me mate. I suppose it's got to do with the circuit itself. No idea on these kinda stuff. I only know how to plug in and play!

How I wish we have a shop that specialises in boutique amps in Singapore. That way I could try some amps that I'm really looking forward to, namely:
Matchless DC-30
Morgan 30/800
Dr. Z Maz 18 NR

All 3 have the AC chime with noticeable differences.

@wck: i really wanna know what sorta genre you play man, especially considering your gear knowledge and all the dirt on your board hah my gear knowledge is limited to as much as i read on the ambient/textural guitarists' thread on TGP lol some crazy psycos on that thread i tell ya!

Gear knowledge does not = good playing.. I'm a great example haha.

I play stuff from funk and blues (RHCP, hendrix, clapton, mayer) to alternative, hard rock to weirder stuff like mars volta but I still can't play that properly haha. I'm getting rid of as much dirt as possible now haha, I'll be down to 4 if I can sell my unused stuff!

I do mess around with ambient stuff but its kinda hard without a volume pedal. The threadstarter there has some great music, his name is andrew stephen something. Mainly him, Radiohead and a couple of local bands really exposed me and got me into the post rock/ ambient genre.

@wck: lol tubescreamer, yea that guy puts out unreal tracks on his youtube channel. then there's democolorscheme, his echo unit collection gives me wet dreams.

hah same la, if you cant play the part, LOOK the part lol

@Godspeed64: lol an amp boutique, on like the top floor of ion maybe, overlooking orchard. walls of 4x12 cabs and shelves with amp gems............... holy hell

hmmmmm my amp want-to-try list:
Shiva
dc 30
chieftain
dag
stuff from 65 amps
stuff from badcat amps
stuff from jackson ampworks

just to name a few among MANY others..

and then THIS: http://www.lumpystoneshop.com/se6973.htm can't wait for tommy to put out details about this.

Check out Xits X10 for great Vox chime. It's a pity, they used to be MUCH cheaper, and had a long waiting time but Michael Koski was barely making any profit so the price is what it is now.

Yeah his echo collection is sick and his demos/ playing are quite good too.

Haha ya, I'm trying to look like a better player with my gear heh.

Lol the amp boutique sounds great but there will be people like us going there just to try.. Right now the amp that I really want to try is a trainwreck express. There's this dude on youtube that kinda demoed one with his original 59' les paul and it really sounds killer.

Dudelove: The cleans of the X10 have that vox chime for sure. Good recording quality too.

Player(playing) matters a hell lot unfortunately, as much as we try to find better gear to compensate for our playing, it only goes so far.

GregV is a great example, he's a MONSTER of a player, I've never seen a demo player more skilled, and no matter what he plays, he REALLY brings out the best in those amps.

Yeah agreed.. Having more gear is kinda distracting but its damn fun.

Another great player is fatback. That dude demos pedals really well and when I watch his demos I'll not care what pedal hes using sometimes haha.

It's great fun alright!

I just wish he recorded with proper recording equipment..

Yeah while it might not be that accurate its still fun to hear him play.. At least its of better playing and recording quality than GMD, not at funny tho.
