Morgan Amps

Didn't really know about these builders before j_m_s graced us with his cross between a OD/Fuzz stomp box from Morgan. Did a bit of reading about them on random forums and what not. Didn't occur to me until yesterday to actually read their own website *face palm*

What i discovered was quite a revelation, to say the least. And at these prices?!?!?! This is way too good to be true.

And then this:

Yummy.

Yes yes, youtube audio can't be trusted, but something that can sound this good on compressed lousy quality youtube audio is really something.

This particular one's US$1200(head only)/1400(1 x 12 combo). Nice.

The DAG15 is a great deal, even when compared to his other models. Was interested in an Abbey but now it looks like it would just make more sense to get the DAG15, they seemed to be voiced similarly as well.

Lol, the Matchless is a no brain-er. But I can't justify even wanting one cuz, I'm no professional musician. Just a regular Joe on a tone hunt! The DAG15 looks like a good bet when transportation is concerned, over zealous-know-it-all church sound guys who insist I go amp-less and what not. lol.

Wow, great demo of the amp. Rarely do demos show how the amp does at loud volumes and in a band setting.

Haha Godspeed. The DC-30 sounds like a great amp haven't heard one in person but I'm just naturally attracted to matchless amps cos of their looks and the lit up nameplate.

Wow, do all guitarists have problems with their sound guys?!?

Suffering the same plight? Yea it's the age old story, no one cares that the keys are blaring, but the minute I cut through, I'm too loud. Lol. Though I must say things have gotten a little better at my church with younger sound folks, who do their homework.

I've been GASing for one since i found them!

Good seller too, great communication! I WANT MY MORGAN AMP!

w regards to sound guys..... HAHAHAHA.

Yeah shall not rant too much about it. Basically its just horrible horrible band mix.

Anyway at 1.4k usd you should check out Dr Z amps. At that price you can fetch a 2x10 Maz 18 Jr NR.

Much love for Dr Z amps! But a 2 x 10s gonna be a lovelovelovelovelove to bring around without a roadie hah this looks like I could load it and unload it into the back of a cab on my own along with my PT-Jr and the massive PRS hardcase. lol.

On that note, I kinda wanna know what amps you guys get to play when you're on the go/dont have a choice, be it at church or at gigs? [i've nvr really gigged much =( ]

All this tone hunting, but like at the end of it if your playing some beat up old SS amp, that's gotta be an epic bummer. Especially with the gems that ppl like @dudelove carry on their boards.

Nothing wrong about SS though. In fact I'm afraid getting a too 'atas' tube amp will make me be too fussy about amps at gigs/studios.
So at the moment I'll stick to my tube/ss amps at home.

Anyways anyone here feel that they cannot do less than a 2x12"?
I find 1x12" and even 2x10" boxy sometimes.

Really? I play a AC15 regularly. It's got a 1 x 12 speaker. Nicely broken in by now. Speaking in terms of band volumes of course (The AC15 is no bedroom amp unless you live in some seclude Stevens Rd bungalow). PLENTY loud for a 1000 seater worship venue. Once you've figured out it's moods, those typical Vox chimey, jangly cleans have a lot of headroom to play with. Engage the yellow side on the KoT and it turns into this suicidal maniac that spills into this magical natural OD proportionate to how you're digging into your strings. Actually my KoT's yellow side is almost always on. I like touch sensitive amps and pedals (I think most players do?). Don't do too much stacking for gain or flip the volume knob round and about.

Okay I'm digressing and I sound high. To answer your question, in the context of a AC15 at least: nope it doesn't sound like any box I've ever seen.

Skipper, i would like to try a KoT! haha never tried before!

anyway.. for sunday services, I use mainly a Line6 Flextone that i tweaked to an AC30ish kinda sound. on the verge of break up. for youth service i play mostly bass. but for EG we mostly use PODs and well we have a Fender Deville.

Sometimes I bring my AC4TV. haha

Some tube amps can be fussy with pedals. Solid state at home is fine for my needs. I think the clips that I record show that I still can achieve pretty sweet tones with my pedals, despite an amateur recording method used.

I would love a nice tube amp at home though. I have other priorities at the moment.

I play solid state amps even when I don't have a choice. That's why I choose the pedals that I use wisely. They've got to sound decent even though its played through a solid state. Marshall MGs for example.

@Godspeed64: I just realized, I can't really remember what this particular AC15 sounds with my guitar straight in. So I'll try to do that sometime over the week and let you know whether it's boxy when I go straight in.

@j_m_s: You wanna have a go? Sureeeeeeee. Don't blame me when you get smitten though hah

@dudelove: tis' the ugly truth. One of the main reasons why I moved on from my Black Eternity was cos it just refused to work with the rest of my pedals and this particular AC15. It sounds brilliant on my lousy SS Ibanez amp at home, but in a live situation... I've got a new box coming in a few weeks, shaking in my socks at the thought of it not gelling.

So skip you wanna get a Morgan?
Haha the DAG seems affordable. Wouldn't mind owning one myself. Wanna sell my Vox NT first though. Heavily under-utilised!

I don't like the CC1, Custom is okay, Heritage Handwired is okay. Hate the fact that Vox "BLUES" is marketed at stupidly higher prices when its not Celestion Blues from UK, but Chinese made.
I have nothing against Chinese products, but the price they charge for a different brand of Blues is dumb.

If I get a Morgan I will not get a Matchless. (so soon)

But I did calculate the expenses. When it was at Blackwood it was $6.4k, and honestly, Ebenex/Blackwood is a shadow of what it was. Everything is way to expensive there now. Now their shop is always empty. Oh well.
But on Ebenex website a DC-30 goes for SGD$4750 though. Hmmmm

Not too sure about the differences but thats a pretty good deal price wise. Seems like vox is doing the ehx (big muff) thingy with the AC series now..

Yeah, the matchless is quite expensive at blackwoods. I think the price on the matchless website is about USD3k, rather get direct from matchless if thats possible.. USD3-4k does not add up to $6.4k to me haha.

@Godspeed64: Heh see how man. Holding onto the cash for some toys on the way. In the case of amp hunting, it's a big gamble if you're just ordering from reading a few reviews and going on other's impression. I would really want to plug the rest of my gear in before I drop the mollah. Technically anything you drop a couple of EL84s into, will sound Vox-ish?

Oh and yes, local prices on Matchless stuff is a little perverted. But then that applies to many local sole brand dealers. Eesh.

and, dont needa call me skip man, my name's Sumit =)

@wck: i really wanna know what sorta genre you play man, especially considering your gear knowledge and all the dirt on your board hah my gear knowledge is limited to as much as i read on the ambient/textural guitarists' thread on TGP lol some crazy psycos on that thread i tell ya!
