Manchester United 2008-2009 Season Thread

i don't know about the rest of you guys, but i kinda want our next number SEVEN to be a free-kick specialist.. i'm used to it.. Beckham then Ronaldo..

OR! someone who has that leadership material.. many of the past number SEVENs were captains one way or another..

Prior to Vidic and Evra, our defence hadn't been so stable as it was during the Jaap Stam-Henning Berg days or even better, the Pallister-Bruce era...Denis Irwin is an undeniable great.

In any case, I've been saying this all along:

1) We need a strong midfielder who can dictate play. Carrick and Fletcher is not consistent enough.

2) Failing that, at least get a midfielder who can BREAK play...win the balls in the middle of the park. No one has stepped up to the role vacated by Roy Keane.

Talking about holding players I think United should take a look at another Argentine.

Ever Banega.

A great talent I believe.Seen him in videos and I believe he has the ability to break up play and also spread a good ball.Under utilised at Valencia and loaned out to Athletico Madrid. Not sure where he is now though. But a great talent otherwise.

I'm also very curious to see who Fergie will give the prestigeous number 7 to.

Yeah, i think it should be worn by freekick specialists.

Wonder who will step up & take our free-kicks now? Can Rooney?

As long as it's not Berba, I don't mind anyone else. HAHA.

I think the lucky 7 will be vacated for a while, what with Ronaldo's hype currently. If Sir Fergie chooses another number 7 now, that poor guy will surely be torn to shreds by the analysts comparing him to Ronaldo.

i thought Berbatov is quite good at taking freekicks?

can't say the same thing about penalties though.. haha.

Haha...to me, he shouldn't take free kicks or penalties la. He's a good player no doubt, but it's his nonchalant and "i-don't-give-a-rat's-ass" attitude that bugs me, man.

Irwin is the man. Never saw a bad game from him, and was a gd penalty taker as well. Giggs rates him the best left back.

Or we shld just buy RVN back lol

Yeah man. I wouldn't mind having RVN back in the team!

And yeah, i think Fergie will leave the number 7 vacant for now, at least till we buy someone deserving of it.

Yea & apparently, according to soccernet.com, AC Milan have pulled out from the chase to sign Jan-Klaas Huntelaar so looks like he's all ours that is if he decides to move away from the Barnabeu.

Don't know much about Obertan but Fergie seems to think very highly of the chap, saying that he had been eyeing him since the dude was just 17.

I believe Rooney and Anderson can take a freekick. Not to forget Rooney's debut hat-trick against Fenerbache.Scored a freekick for his third.

I believe we can rely on Giggs still for set pieces.

berbatov free kicks????

that guys shots are so weak. i've nvr ever seen berbatov shoot a ball with real strength and intent.

That's what i mean la! That fellow should be refrained from taking free-kicks of all sorts & he should be banned from ever taking another penalty!

Obertan is a very good player. He is like how Henry plays and Barcelona. In my opninion.Plays on the wings and bombard the defenders by cutting in.Not a prolific goalscorer like his compatriot but he has the age to be like him.

Ahh i see...ok. So i guess Obertan is a good signing then. Great!

Wonder if Fergie is still gonna bid in for Huntelaar should he decide he wants to move from Real.

Rooney can take..
Anderson can take.. (but i honestly haven't seen one on target.. haha)
Giggs still has some magic left in him.

and if he is fit enough to play,
Hargreaves is quite the freekick taker..

wah we had problems rotating 3 freaking strikers last season..

now if huntelaar comes we have 4. why cant they be gentleman and be cool abt rotation, just like the great four, yorke, cole, sheringham, solkjaer. they nvr ever complained abt being rotated.

i'm very sure rooney would get damn pissed the moment he doesnt start.

this one. hargreaves goals to attempts ratio is very spectacular. he has score 2 free kicks in his career, and how many attempts has he made? no less than 5 if i rmb correctly

ronaldo scores 1 in 15 free kicks i think. 10 hit the wall. his free kicks are spectacular. no more.
