lowballers list

i'm actually fine with lowballers.

if i'm selling something for $200, and you offer $50, i'll just say sorry, no deal. simple as that!

This thread got to 4 pages before I could ask, what kind of lowballers are we talking about?

Hi i'm interested in xxx, can I get it for $200 instead of $300?

Hi i'm interested in xxx. Can you come to the other side of singapore to meet me? I still studying so can't go very far or my mother will scold me.

*travels all the way to the other end of singapore*

Hi, actually I don't have $300, can I buy it for $200 instead?

heh, this thread is so righteous!

How bout if one day anyone happen to see ad on something which always wanted and the seller didnt know the actual value and priced it super low till its like the seller lowballed himself whitout knowing.

Will you, as the buyer willing to buy from him at a price which cud be several hundred higher and informed him of the actual price?

i'll prefer to buy it at the cheaper price and consider the guy to be generous... then i'll feel guilty and as though i have cheated him...than i realised that he was the one who offered me the price and i have not lied to anyone...

i think there're a few things to note:

1) buyers tend to expect used gear to be sold at 50% of the retail price (RP). regardless of whether the gear is 1-day old, 1-week old, 1-month old, 10/10 condition, 9/10 condition. they think that gears are like cars, the moment you drive the car out of the showroom, the car must depreciate by 50% in value.

2) Sweelee had their sales prices during their mid-year and year-end sale, CityMusic had their year-end sale prices. Buyers always like to take references to these sales prices, even though the seller is able to produce receipt showing the non-sales price that they had paid for the gear.

such mindset are pushing prices lower and lower, to the extent it's quite unhealthy. we're all sellers, and buyers too, do we really wanna let lowballers in, and spoil the market?

(because everyone does abit of lowballering sometime in their life time)

it's a free market. It's not as if there's a lot of competition to compare prices with, so it's just natural that we lowball to test your limits. It's business man. Basic economics.

Go read up: The customer is always right.(at least in lowballing they are) Unless he requests to meet you and then lowball you on the spot.

in that case, confirm the price before going.

if they still do that after that then they deserve this

more like no balls. 8O

deathism, if you like, "noballers" sounds like an appropriate term here. anyway, there's no free lunch in this world, even if there is, it's a lousy lunch. Of course, there are generous pple here who are either rich, or they just wanna be a blessing to the kids who are in need of gears. But, pls don't take these pple for granted.

Price wise, i'm sharing what i feel it is acceptable: When it comes to an item that is 10/10, or 9/10 condition, or something that is less than a year old, etc, i think we've got to respect the seller's selling price.

e.g. it cost $1000, current (at that point of time) retail price.
if seller is asking for $900, $800, or even $700, i think it is quite ok.
To avoid being a lowballer, pls lah, don't straight away ask the seller, can sell at $500? i think this will make the seller feel fustrated.

Some of you think there is this "art of bargaining" culture, err, i don't really think so. When i sell me stuff, i always put up the fixed price, it's really no-nonsense. Fixed price means? : Fixed, nothing complicated.

So many times, i got the right buyer almost within 24hours.
From the time the right buyer left me with his contact number (showing he is a sincere buyer),
agreed on my price (respecting my price),
and meeting at my place (confirming that he is serious about the deal),
the lowballers buyers are still struggling to give me their contact number, kept bargaining, and kept asking for a different location and day and time to their convenience...
then, finally, i sold the item, and they got disappointed...

sad isn't it?

so, lowballers, pls, change your formula of "50% or lower", change it to "70% to 90%", you'll be able to get your gear sooner, and enjoy it sooner, and still, it will be cheaper if you were to get it brand new.

Of course, here, i'm assuming the seller knows that he is selling something that is of good condition, matching his selling price to the condition of his gear.

when i deal..its straight forward..

cannot sell it to me at that price..i apologise and take my leave.

if i wanna deal.

i'll quickly give my contacts..agree on a meeting place..

den impatiently wait till the day comes..

but if smth crops up and i cant buy the item or i cant meet the buyer..

i'll let him know straightaway. (and apologise of coz!)

lowball...

is this case considered a 'lowball'....

ad was posted with price and year of manufacture.
offer from buyer was three hundred less than price stated.
buyer claimed the offer was best he could afford.
obviously seller bargained up.

buyer then replied that the item was older than he was and will now consider getting a brand new item at double the price.

i guess this is one of the better lowaballing excuses...
