James Tyler guitars

@ MUNAk

here’s my 2 cents

There’s a difference between buying guitars blindly online and choosing the right guitars for yourself by trying out 5 or 10 guitars at your local dealers.the price might be higher than online dealers but believed me ,you will save more in the future if you got the right one, than getting a dud Tyler or any guitar purchase online and sell it again at loss is you are not happy with it.

If there is any advice to heed, its his. he knows tylers inside out. hats off to u sir!

It's a fact that it is way cheaper to be buying guitars online than choosing a variety of guitars at local dealers.

61k+ including GST and shipping thru UPS is extremely cost efficient... I came across edgie when was performing/jamming (the dude was one with his guitar) and when he showed it to be what I held was a one well made instrument.

Dealer could stock dud instruments at hand as well; it's not as if the dealers personally supervised the manufacturing process of these instruments...

But with a reputable manufacuter such as James Tyler, Tom Anderson, etc, buyers should not worry too much over it.

The manufacturer should check out these personal speculations made in public forum about him and his company and maybe consider a defamation suit at his discretion.

there is a difference between personal speculations, and facts. maybe ur referring to the Ice Water issue on this thread, both sides have their own 'facts'. its really difficult to determine who is accurate who is not. lets end the IW issue here.

Yes, buying online is cheaper, but there are also its own trouble. like, even with same specs and all, not all guitars sound the same, the feel, the vibe, the chemistry that you will, might, have with the guitar, may not be the same. its always better to try a variety, and then see which you connect to the most, and get that. by buying online, your limiting ur options. i think that is what olenju is trying to say.

As for the first paragraph, that's easy. Whoever has the guitar or has tried it in person knows the real deal more than the one who didn't. Statistics don't really figure when it comes to small shop guitars because of the quantities of units involved which in the case of Tyler, averages only about 300 per year max. They just have to be played in person to be determined if they're "so-so" or not. Let's put it this way, you don't tell a person what food is delcious for them, right? Tone and feel are just as subjective. Any self-respecting musician would know what's good for his musical journey and don't have to rely on a mutual admiration society for approval. Owning 600 or even 6000 guitars, going to NAMM yearly or wherever your wallet takes you doesn't change the fact that only the owner of the said Ice Water now is the person who can really evaluate it objectively simply because it's with him and not with us.

As for online vs. try-before-buy, I agree the latter will be the more ideal but given we're talking about a boutique guitar brand who so far have a high percentage success rate(otherwise, why would the local dealer keep on stocking them, right?), it's also safe to go online as long as you know what you really want and you have realistic goals within your budget. If you would do so btw, make sure it's an official dealer to protect yourself from scammers. With due respect Dorngo, I will have to disagree that there are less options online. Maybe in some cases where the dealers are really the small shops that they don't do custom order. But for those prominent ones, they can almost order any config for you provided that James Tyler will consent to it.

. i think that is what olenju is trying to say.

Best let him tell us (and James Tyler as well) what he was trying to say or imply.

And it's also best to sell off his prized Tylers to make provisions to engage some legal defence on the side.... can never know if there is indeed an impending defamation suit in the pipe line somewhere gushing silently this way for what was said in this whole thread.

u seem so sure that jim will sue olenju. =) plus, i dun think he needs to sell of any of his guitar. just saying.

lets bring 2 of my friends into this analogy, they are called A and B. A bought a guitar that is from a reputable manufacturer, that guitar appeal to him, its a nice guitar, as agreed by B. but somehow B doesnt feel 'connected' to that guitar that A bought, but yes he agree that it is a good guitar. this is what we term as personal preference. u may noe what u want, the wood, the electronics etc. but at the end, its the whole package that counts. if by buying online, u can try the guitars first hand, then purchase, why not? by referring to less options, im referring to the inability to try the guitars.

Hi Guys, Let's just say all of us talking here really loves Tyler guitar but unfortunately, to each of his own, everybody have their own viewpoint, i do agree that some comment/opinion might sound offending to others, but nevertheless let's just leave this thread to be a Tyler appreciation thread.

Here's a picture of best looking Tyler studio elite HD (to me) for everybody's viewing pleasure (AKA guitarporn), i hope it helps. Peace out guys!

Truth Brigade

Greetings all -

I'm Jessica, James Tyler's eldest daughter. I grew up in the shop in Hollywood watching my dad work on guitars for some incredible players like my "Uncle Mikey" Landau. I've worked in the shop in a myriad of ways in the last 2 decades (Anyone with guitars from '98-02? I probably wired up your pickguard assemblies), and I'm now working as the JTG PR/Media/Web person.

I've mostly enjoyed reading the posts and the Tyler love on the Soft forum. Everyone has their own opinions on which Tylers are better than others, but not everyone has the actual information about what goes on at JTG. I cannot possibly keep up clarifying every rumor that comes up on the thousands of posting threads about Tyler Guitars, but, I am posting here to give you all an email address if you ever want to know the truth instead of the rumors. If you have sincere questions or concerns about quality, please feel free to email me at web[at]tylerguitars.com

FYI - In 2007, James was away from work for 6 days after brain surgery. I know because my sister and I worked along side him while we also helped with his full recovery. Production never stopped. Part of why the recovery took so long was because he was so committed to getting great guitars out to people who were waiting for them. (And, Flint, we really appreciated you being there!)

No guitar has ever been sent out of JTG without passing James's STRICT standards and QC tests. He plays every instrument that goes out of the shop and will only send it if he is proud of it. Otherwise, it's firewood. No seconds, no compromises.

We are proud to be in the USA and have guitars built in the USA. While the CNCs do the rough cut work (and have for about 10 years), the guitars are still built by James along with the hands of skilled craftsmen whom James has trained. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to grow our distribution throughout Asia, and I have been honored to meet and visit with the dealers in Hong Kong and Tokyo. I hope I will have the chance to meet the rest of you at some point as well.

Keep rocking,
JW
(the daughter formerly known as JFTII)

Welcome to soft, Jessica. Really appreciate your effort to reach out to us JFT fans here in Singapore. Maybe your comments will make the guy who sent me a racist hate mail in my PM here will realize he should have researched more before he did that.

Yes Sam, you read it right, a hate mail. And that's for trying to be objective with my point of view, which the guy took as a bashing on his favorite shop. Some people will really show their colors and stoop so low in a vain effort to preserve their tainted "credibility" which they cause on themselves anyways by speculating too much.. On a positive note, it just goes to show an that Ice Water Tyler is worth fighting for, so grab one if you can. I sure will. LOL.

hate mail?

hate mail? that guy shouldnt have done it. guitars and nationality are separate issues.
anyway welcome to soft jessica, thanks for clearing things up. ok lets end the pointless arguement about 2007 tylers here. as what ive said, beauty of tylers surpasses the need for the clarification of 2007 tylers. to me, its just a guitar, like it or not.

wow jm, u sure have alot of guitars! hahaha nice collection. ur 3 are burning water, blue shmear and sunburst? gosh, ur collection makes me drool.
