James Tyler guitars

Gene, what prompted those 10 free guitar lessons when you tried stuff there? Did you botch everyone's favorite Stairway to Heaven? Smoke on the Water? hahaha. Man, this really made my day! This'll put a smile on my face everytime I'll remember this.

On a serious note, @Duality72: Yes, please post pics when you get you and your friends get your Tylers.: )

There is an endless debate to this price issue. Which at certain times, seem pretty amusing. From my personal experience, not all Tyler's are good. Some Tyler's sound dead. And feels dead. When u pay a high price for a guitar, ur ppaying for the integrity. To judge a Tyler guitar just buy the price and spec is pretty amateur. My rule of thumb is that, since I'm going to spend so much on a guitar, I want to be able to try it out first. So te dealers way is te way for me. And duality72 is correct, the prices come up to be pretty reasonable to me. There is a reason why duality72 is looking for old Tyler's. I'm still waitin to try a Tyler from the new factory. I'm looking to see how it compares with mine.
On a side note: gene, how much are u selling ur ethos for?

i think the ethos is going to be sold this week, but if its not I will post it again. Its one of the original handmade pieces before they outsource it.

Time to keep the thread alive with pics. Took this at home :)

Edgie + Gene, tks for the kind comments. I actually did get my SE from CR Guitars :) Craig is a great guy and there IS discount :) The one on sale is like a sister guitar to mine less the birdseye maple neck + mamyo body. I was never intrigued by the Malibu Shmear cos I wasn't really attracted to the cool blues tones that I see on so many of them. When I saw this pc, it drew me in with it's shifting greens/turqoise hues. And under different lights, the tones do shift (you can tell it looks bluish now under really white light). This was further enhanced by the rear route :)

Tone wise, I think Tylers need to be played at higher volumes to give u a full spectrum of their tone. I have the 5500s and secret on mine (with the MB) and I think this combi is just clearly versatile. The 5500s gives a very full clear body to clean tones and sound really good with low OD. When u need to bring things up a notch, hit the MB and go to the secret, it cuts like butter. Have gotten nothing but stellar feedback on the guitar when I played live recently on a bigger stage.

If I were to order a Tyler direct, I would have spec out an additional button to allow adding of the bridge PU to the neck PU :)

Gene: The anticipation is tough eh hahaha :) But u will soon be really satisfied!
Edgie: Time to have another GAS gathering!

Edgie: Not everyone of us got chops like you! :p

NO I didn't even go there. I just called to ask how much and they said 8k. When I said that was quite pricey, they told me the price includes 10 guitar lessons!

Yeah, and it's quite a lonely place here in the Horrid Players Club. They're not taking in anymore members, they said, as my "chops" more than made up for the remaining 10 slots...LOL.:p

Yeah right, Horrid Players Club u say... we all know the truth! Hahaa I think u should conduct the classes!

I wish to see u play edgie. I've never seen u play before... Mind If u post a clip or what showing ur playing? Good to learn from each other. Actually, from u. Hahaha

haha. Believe me man, I'm really average if let's say compared to guys who have been around here. You can get more useful tips and lessons from guys like Yar, Randolf, Clinton Carnegie, and Brendon Gan if you really want to learn locally here. Of course, I m missing out some other names but you get the idea. And also worht mentioning, there's a guy named Dhalif here who can play covrs with crazy stuff effortlessly.

Haha dhalif is good. I really like the way he play his melody... Very melodic. Plus his harmonics are good. Yar is my teacher... He is more of a landau meets huff kinda guy... Haha... Still interested to hear u play :-)

@dorngo: haha I definitely need lessons. I've only picked up the guitar again after a long hiatus and have been playing, self taught from books or the net. This time I'm trying to go back to the basics and learn music theory as opposed to learning chords and playing blindly.

@gunihoon: Hey James, thanks for your write up about your guitar. I'm interested to learn more about the switch you mentioned that allows the neck to be added to the bridge. Since my guitar is probably not built yet, I may have time to add it. I have a tone blend knob on my Strat which allows the neck to be blended with the bridge and vice versa, depending on the switch position. Makes it teleish sounding so its great. Is it a button with a additional blend knob that allows control, or just a switch that adds the bridge to the neck?

We should definitely get a gathering going. I just another one of my friends into guitar as well! Although I would abstain from playing anything in front of your guys till I improve hahaha.

=Gene46

I think the "add neck" feature can be wired to a button or a pull up on the knob or a third blend knob like u mentioned. I think you should ask the guys at Tyler wat's the best way to do it since I supposed you would have the midboost installed as well? I would also put in a "blower" switch like those on the Gutherie Govan Suhr! Tyler started off hot-rodding fenders so I think they would be pretty happy to do all these mods :) I'd seen a Tyler with 3 buttons hahahhaa :)

We are all GAS inducers lah :)

Go to tinypic.com(or other image hosting website). There's an "upload pic" box there with a browse button on the right. Click browse, select image from your computer, then click upload. Then you'll be asked to type the word that you see, then it'll generate four kinds of links. Copy-paste the one that's for forums and boards.
