How bout a compilation of some common pedals? One dist, one od, one wah, one delay and one chorus. So that he can play around with them and won't be mesmerized by the knobs on the multi efx and he will know what each knob does.
5 Danelectro Cool Cat pedals = $100 to $150
Onespot adapter = $20
CNB pedal case = $30
4 patch cables = $10 to $20
Just a rough gauge for secondhand items of course.
But I don't see a problem with a simple multieffects. Lots of people start with cheap Zoom, Korg or Boss multieffects. It's not the best sound but still can learn a lot from it.
Bad thing about cheap multi fx are that they cant cut and sound bad, analog pedals will sound better.. Esp some of the danelectro pedals, I know some pros and many on soft use them on their boards. Good thing is that you'll have lots of effects to play with a learn about your preferences and how the efx works etc..
What they said. Can also check out some of the cheaper stuff like Artec, Behringer, Beta Aivin, Modtone. Some of them are actually pretty decent. Line 6 is clearing the tone core pedals now for pretty cheap, do check them out.
Sorry ck but they cut through the mix really well. In fact too well that it sounds downright undesirable.
When I shifted from the ol Zoom to analog pedals I took a long time before I knew how to cut through the mix in a band with 2 guitarist and a keyboardist competing for mids.
No worries, to each his own.. Just the cheap mfx I've heard people use really don't cut at all, their sound was just a mess. It could partly be their settings tho. I have no problems cutting with my analog pedals unless it a big muff haha.
yup...thats the disadvantage...the red little lights indicating chorus, dist, reverb etc hard to see...stupid lights...really dnt know how to designer thinks...take out those little lights and its perfect =)
Yep it's an '02 standard, haha my board has been that way for quite a while now... but i think im probably gonna throw a delay, comp and maybe a polytune in
