Nice flame on your trad man, but you gotta get rid of those speed knobs! Put some reflectors or bell-knobs on that beaut! And great-looking set of Kotzens too!

I got know about Red Bear picks cos Guthrie Govan used them and swear by it. I wonder what's the big deal and went ahead with the order to try it myself.

I ordered mine with speed bevel. Red Bear say they “Play faster and more accurately than with any other guitar pick.” and after I A/B with all my different picks this is definitely true. The pick is very smooth off the strings. It glides from string to string with very little friction and the heavy gauge gives the pick plenty of tone. The material they used is a polymerized animal protein that has many of the same physical properties as real turtle shell which makes it ideal for guitar picks. Theres a huge tone difference when I compared them with my other picks. The tone is very warm no harshness at all. The grip holes provide excellent grip.

The downside is it's US$20 a piece. Will I buy another Red Bear pick? Yes! I want to order more already. It's really good.

I like expensive picks. They make playing a whole lot easier although I can't really explain why. My rice bowl does not depend on it so I don't really care about the theory. I have a V-Pick Psycho and I love how it actually makes picking easier & more fluid as compared to a Jazz III.

The benefits are there but as mentioned, the only downside is the price. Imagine you were in a situation where you lose that pick and your closest available replacement was a Jazz III. naturally, your playing would be affected & you won't like it at all. You could ruin a good show just because of a stupid pick.

I've concluded that although these picks are great, it creates a form of "dependency". As if you can't play with any other pick.

I don't know about you guys but I always lose my picks & it would be quite an expensive price to pay if I invested in a few V-Picks. Although I prefer the V-Pick to the Jazz III, I'd rather use something that is readily available as opposed to something that I have to wait 2 weeks to reach my doorstep.

Just my opinion. I wonder if any of you guys feel the same.

i agree picks do play a part in tone shaping hence i swear by my V Picks...

$20USD for a pick?!
Ooo....
You'll need a special tweed case for that pick.
hehehe

Sure the Red Bear with speed bevel glides through the strings like silk but the tone it produced is worth the price.

Harist, what amp is your son playing through and what other pedals does he have? A picture might help, easier for us to help you out as well:)

Maybe a distortion pedal, Danelectro Cool Cat Distortion, retails for 30 bucks.
Beta Aivin Noise Gate, 50/60 bucks retail?
And perhaps you should think about upgrading the amp first, but just an opinion.

Just an afterthought: I thought Gibson LP Specials come with dot inlays... Or am i mistaken?
