It's been a LONG while since I last posted new gear on this thread. Anyways.

One word: Lollars.

Heh.. Imperials.

I knew the PRS pickups weren't the most tonally defined pickups (mostly from reading what other ppl say about them), but you know there's tonnes out there that are probably way more crappy, and i really thought to myself.. another set of hummbuckers, same guitar, how different can they be right?! But good holy crap ()&*&*^$@@$^&(&^^#^&%*^(&_) these things are so in a league of their own!

Now i'm itching to try stuff from other specialty pickup makers! shit shit shit.. poor bank account of mine.

indeed haha. in my old prs ce24 i had a set of fralins that were really good. check out WCRs, branes, tom holmes, etc etc. hahaha

Stick with what you have! Pickups can be a slippery slope haha. Btw, the first thing I noticed was your sig. Rain song!!

Anyone remembers my Squier Jazzmaster and the concentric knobs? Well I decided to get rid of them and replace them with normal 550K pots by Bare Knuckle. So its just one master volume and one master tone. Works well :)

wck: I dont think I'll be too ambitious with pickups hah.. this was a HUGE leap of faith. as humbuckers they are awesome pickups. but the prs stock pickup had their own plus, for example you can get really decent single coil sounds when you engage the split coils on them. not so for these. lol i used to use the coil splitting quite a lot too......... so missing that a little

Ah I see. I think its pretty impossible to get a pickup to suit everything (low to high gain, coil split or humbucker, diff setups etc), have to compromise somehow.
On a slightly unrelated note. I feel that the H-S-H config is still the best for that strat cleans to high gain tone, versatile config esp with coil spilt.

hey skipper, how do ur imperials sound in this? i've never tried lollars in my PRSi.

Hah still honeymoon period so I won't say much just some initial pros and cons.

Love how the pickups have a very nice throaty tone going on. They're as articulate when you tickle your strings as they are when you are digging in, and this without it sounding harsh. There's this all round sense of roundness to the sound from these. To use superficial words: there's a sense of old soul mojo in these reminiscent of any decent PAF copy and more so.

What I'm missing (and I should've known this would happen), is that I think the HFS and the Vintage treble where probably designed for a balance between the vintage and modern tones and also balanced to replicate really nice single coil tones when coil split. So yea the imperials won't get you those coil split sounds (not with the same tenacity anyway) and I did used to use that quite a bit.

Other then that! So far VERY GOOD! Will update more when I've had more play time on these!

Cheers!

^^ goodness where was all this rocking going on! and where was i!

We had consecutive jamming time slots!

PAFs are always the only way to go for humbuckers man. Any other type of humbucker sounds muddy and disgusting to me. Feel free to whack me if you disagree.

Goodness man where at? Would love to see you guys in action sometime!

hah goodness after these Imperials, I think I'm the one in need of a smacking for having waited this long!
