no pedals + no issue = my setup 8)

I rather not bring big names into the picture because at the end of the day, its not going to affect me decision if my ears percieve otherwise.
If I had to absolutely use a buffer, the bloody thing better not change my tone in a negative sense, which is the case with boss/ibanez/morley buffers so far. My DD-3 is irking me very badly need a true bypass pedal to knock it out.
Lovepedal had a cool mini buffer out... very nice device, 1/2 the size of an mxr size box, and 1 knob for up to 5db boost. Very nice. But it was a limited run.

High 'Z' or high impedence outputs don't travel well over long distances. Buffers take in high impedence and outputs low impedence which travel very well over long distances.

theblueark said:Not neccesarily. You can put it in an existing pedal, which is how Boss does it, there's a buffer in their bypass. The standard tubescreamers have a buffer before the tubescreaming circuit. Or was it after, I'll have to go check again.
You can make a buffer and put it in a pedal. Like the Axes buffer.
You can make a buffer and put it in the guitar, like how some active circuitry in guitars work.
Preamps are essentially buffers too, with variable Db gain.
A buffer is just a circuitry, you can put it anywhere you like.
