Gear News 2006

you got me wrong there- not saying Planet Wave's version is more accurate, but the strobe module per se is more reliable for acute tuning applications.

for those of us in search of good LP copies to own, this Edwards here (currently available @ Davis) is one to check out (it has been mentioned in this thread before, got to try it only recently):

Which is why I'm saying the planet wave's 'strobe' is a farce. It is no more accurate than it's normal mode. All it does is add some moving lights. Not talking about other strobe tuners. That specific planet waves one.

Yes! The planetwaves pedal tuner is finally here! been attracted by its small size, due to a limited space in my pedal board. :)

Just one qns, according to the planetwaves web, it say the pedal tuner is true hard bypass, so is true hard bypass= true bypass?

Nope, there's an extra 'hard' in there.

Anyways ya, it's not true bypass as far as I know. Making a true bypass soft switching pedal with 2 modes is incredibly expensive and quite impossible to fit in a tuner that size.

Might be possible, but you'll lose some of the functions.

It will have to be fixed as either:
1)muted tuning
2)bypassed tuning

Adding a switch to switch between both is probably quite difficult.

then again i dont see wads the big hype abt boss pedals sucking tone.. hmm
i was reading up on the tu-2 on the boss webbie but i dont seem to get it.. haha, so how does this whole mute tuning work, like input->output or input->bypass ?

then when u stomp on it, ur muted and then u can tune? if so, how to insert into signal chain?

Get a good clean amp, plug in your guitar straight, then plug in through the tu-2 or any other boss pedal. If you hear a difference, and don't like it, then that's tone suck. If you hear a difference, and you like it, then great! You just saved yourself a huge amount of $$ on tb pedals :D If you don't hear a difference, then that's good news on the $$ side too.

Mute means when you step to tune, no sound goes to your amp. Bypassed/through/whatever the companies like to call it, means when you step to tune, you can tune and your sound goes through to the amp as well.

if a nut like me using humbuckers, can hear the tone suck of Boss pedals, i'm sure you can. Just that people will argue, it doesn't matter live lah or what. Yes, 1 Boss pedal ain't much. 2 still okay, can hear but okay. 4? Nope. No way. YMMV.

Randolf seems to be a pro buffer guy though. And so's pete cornish 8O

Good buffering has it's use. It allows more consistency between pedals when on/off. So your impedence between pedals doesn't suddenly change when you bring the middle one out with true bypass.

Pros and cons, pros and cons :D

Well, let your ears decide.

I rather not bring big names into the picture because at the end of the day, its not going to affect me decision if my ears percieve otherwise.

If I had to absolutely use a buffer, the bloody thing better not change my tone in a negative sense, which is the case with boss/ibanez/morley buffers so far. My DD-3 is irking me very badly need a true bypass pedal to knock it out.

Lovepedal had a cool mini buffer out... very nice device, 1/2 the size of an mxr size box, and 1 knob for up to 5db boost. Very nice. But it was a limited run.
