Fuzz for Texture: How do you USE it?

Dude... snuff... that V8 is itchin me to look under the hood :D

Its so small ...does it fit a batt inside ?

So... sir embryo which fuzz you packing for the tour ?

I've just recently acquired a Catalinbread V8 Fuzz tone machine, and I think that it can get traditional fuzz sounds(Fat/smooth), and also weird synthy sounds when the gain knob is dimed.

I stack it before my Zim Overdrive section for that violinish/endless sustain kinda tone, and surprisingly, there is little or no feedback or noise when stacked with my other OD pedals like the BOR,Zim, and CrunchBox.

Snuff - this is similar in application to the MXR Blue Box. Yeah, the BB is a synth but it has a gate-like-thing going on.

Stacking results in smooth sustain forever kinda tone but no noise when not playing.

This V8 sounds like a gated fuzz or synth... hmmm.... but damn small lah.

My other favourite fuzz would be Goose's weird black sparkly one that I have always tried whenever I am his place or jamming with him(I'm his last-resort stand-in drummer by the way-heheh).Goose's one(im sure you have tried it before) is the great in ya face vintage fuzz meister.I've not tried stacking it so you gotta ask Goose about that.(wait a minute, I think you also own one right?)

Haha.. yes, I got one. But mine is less un-ruly than Goose's personal creation.

What's good abt the Goose Fuzz is that is quiet... more quiet than your run-of-the-mill muff or the Skreddy's. Different tone though. So it makes for great stacking. Stacked and using a humbucker alone = HUGE BASSY TONES... not nice for chuggy but then... I got out of phase on my guitar... ahhh... theres a lot of bass cut on that setting and suddenly, tight metal tones are available. I think a single coil could get that similiar tight tone.

Gd luck with your journey and I can't wait for this similiar topic to arise again after a few months.

Gah... what to do? The cool thing is... after toying around with stuff, new combinations are found, different ideals realised, tastes change and the whole damn thing resets to 0 again! :D

situationist - the Bee Baa!

Ah, I wanted to try this for a long time.

Harsh you say? INTERESTING.

For some reason... okay, for MANY reasons... I would like to have a harsh fuzz here in my "tool" board.

Methinks its time to check it out... Barge Concepts, here we go again...

whole damn thing resets to 0 again!

We all need that !!

Basically a fuzz is maxxing out transistors or op-amps then give it controls to tame ....its like riding a wicked bull and all you got is a rope !

....you can't poke with a toothpick ...can ya ??!!

Sils - anyone know of Silicon-based fuzzes that sound sorta-like Germ-fuzzes?

its called the Vishhudda Fuzz and it'll be released in November or I ain't no smiling tiger slayer!!!

Ok ok... i might not be some slayer but damn i LOVE my fuzz! hahahaha....

ah yes, what's happening there is that the germies are already saturating at a much lower voltage compared to silicons. saturation whether with germies, silicon, solid state or tubes when in extreme besides obviously distorting will compress and roll off highs, accentuate the mids and flub out the lows.

Randolf Sir...

I enjoy flubby lows. Seriously.

I have a fetish for it.

Now... don't anyone DARE post ANY flubby pictures

Goosey, no fuzzes for this coming mini tour of Y2K7. i've decide to keep the setup simple so i'm using my godin acoustic. i've got quite a bit of textures and layer options to create more than enuff option anxiety already. Hehehe :)

I'm stalling Embryo's recording projects till I return and will definitely be experimenting with more tones especially with fuzzes and different amp configs. Would definitely welcome working with your creations to see where they fit in the maze of things in Embryo. :)

AUWWWWW..............

Good whether too ! AHHH the perks of married life !!

:smt075 Back to fuzz ... as nowadays more guitar players and reviving the love for fuzz either as a main drive or just for texturing. Given the versatility to go from almost clean to wicked fuzz at a turn of the guitar volume knob just begs attention aye ...i like !

ok i noe this is going off topic...sooo typical of us here right! :

Tiger to Tigress manja talk

Tiger: Maaaaaauh!
Tigresss: Tak Maaaaaauh!
Tiger: Raaaaaaawwwrrr! Aye Maaaaaaaugh!
Tigress: Okie!

Aye. At least for me lah.

This shift to fuzz, for me, has resulted in different choice of pots also. Potentiometers (or however you spell it). Hehe.

Used to like the totally smooth, even taper kinds from Dimarzio.

Now I'd go back to CTS-style, where the taper is smooth from 0 - 8, then jumps 8 - 10. Much more useful for clean --> dirty and back!

Once I experienced how the roll off affected the tone of a medium-high gain silicon FF... I was sold.

Yet another wonderful thing about fuzz is the *gate* !!
You can do chugs with complete silence in between ...my favorite.

Given a buffer switchable ...all the better !!

Goose - this gate thing.

ALL fuzzes with gate will be able to accomplish what you mention above?

Yes sir.... On a two transistor fuzz where the second has variable resitor (pot) between the supply and the collector for broken speaker, farts, gate to crunch to Ocsilation .... 8)

If your Fuzz has a third Bias pot ...this the fella !!!
