EMG pickups?

I'm asking an honest question... sterile vs cutting thru/definition/clear signal.... i don't see the link?

Maybe I should put emoticons next time.

There's a link actually. But let me lay down some ground work first. Sterile means alot of things to alot of people. However having been in a guitar shop for 2 years trying hundreds of guitars and pickups, I think most bedroom warriors want to hear a rich sounding lush chord for e.g. This sound although not sterile, however it might have problems cutting through on stage, too warm for e.g. EMGs have excellant cut and on its own not as rich sounding as many 'vintage voiced' pickups.

With a less than ideal setup, i.e poor amp etc, EMGs however may save your life. A point to remember is, the guitar itself may sound 'sterile' on its own, but can sound very rich with the band because of the fact that the EQ setting just sits nicely. The right set of pickups is crucial, but the right set of ears are even more crucial. Especially for the players and soundmen.

8) :)

are these emoticons sufficient?

Thanks for the plug kaycee, i understand the point you be getting at.

Souljah, if its not too much, may I try your guitar?

I'll try to find the time man, I'm in my last semester at Uni now and scooping ice cream to get by on my gas.

Having trouble even finding time to play guitar. :(

shredcow pwns all. whatever he says is truth ^^ hee.
well to me sterile seems like the sound would be somewhat clean and safe. not very adventurous.

sterile= very clean, like doctor's equipment.
or
the other meaning

lolz ....doesnt everyone want a piece of the action....

sarcastic statement(insert shredcow appropriately)....add smiley to redeem yourself

Only you would know. I think I have nice tone but my friend next to me thinks its too muddy, too middy, too etc etc etc.

Its really up to you.

Many have tried it before.

With your 81/60 set.

My opinion is that EMGs have a unique sound, which I term as sterile. Interpret it as you wish. Best thing to do is to google on EMGs and find as many articles on it as possible. Harmony Central, Jemsite, SOFT, 7stringforum, 6stringheaven, etc etc.

Do your homework and you gotta make a decision yourself. Its your tone your guitar, its just that, right now, its all in your head.

Do understand, a pup intended for metal tones usually does not fare well for cleans. Its a trade off, a balancing act.
