Distortion Pedals

ds-1.. warmer, imo the sound on ds-2 dam flat.. or get a modded ds-1.. so many ds-1s in the buy/sell section anyway..:)

the double shot is an awesome distortion pedal. much gain and clarity but only for one channel. the other channel is a complete waste of space on the pedal. u can consider the subdecay blackstar as well, depending on how much u wanna spend on it.the proco RAT2 is also another awesome distortion. open and full of option. another option is to custom make a distortion. that worked brilliantly for me

hey,

i heard quite a bit on sd1 in this thread, but no one is sharing on the sd2. care to share abit on it? coz i got one and havent reallie maximize the use of it.

hello everyone, I have been thinking about getting myself a distortion pedal for a while now, but i haven't really been able to make up my mind... mostly because of a lack of experience in pedals. This would be my first ever pedal if I do get one...
So, can anyone help me out? I want to know which distortion pedals are good bang for bucks or just good... =p
So far, I've heard from my friends that the Metal Zone is good, and so are the Dime Distortion, Wylde Overdrive, Double Shot Distortion and Tube Screamer. Can you guys tell me which of these are really good? and recommend me somemore? thanks!

You've stumbled onto one of the most tiring quests a guitarist can embark on. No one can tell you what's good or not. Everyone uses a Tubescreamer or a DS-1, but I hate both. I don't know why everyone claims it's so good. And yet, it's 2 of the most popular pedals around.

You need to go try this stuff out for yourself. you'll be surprised what you might end up liking.

the tubescreamer is an overdrive pedal and i would say COMPLETELY different from the ds-1. the tubescreamer can be a guitarists biggest tone asset when used properly. it doesnt have enough gain for distortion. i personally dont like the ds-1 as well. but in the tonal world of guitars, one man's meat is anothers poison.

I tried a "modern" Ibanez TS-9.

Was surprised at the amount of drive it had... crank the gain and legato lines spill out like no one's business and power chords had good chug.

Otherwise, typical TS features abound... muddy low end, rounded top end, lo-fi-ish warm tone and lots of compression.

Anyway, I don't like both TS9 and the MIT DS1s.

The MIJ DS1 with the old chip, now that's something else.

well again i say. to each his own, i love the tubescreamers.it has a signature tone with much character to it. everyone has their own opinion, esp on drive pedals. i personally own an analogman ts808 which is on od that i will not sell. nohing ive found can give me anything close to tht sound. brilliant

You might also wanna consider Line 6 Uber Metal. Its a rather flexible distortion pedal so it can do rock and metal as well, just tweak around on the scoop and drive knobs. You can even do nu metal on it! I own this pedal and it rocks.

please take the tubescreamer off your list, its overdrive, very very light distortion. Recommendations from me are the AMT Du Hast and the EHX Metal Muff, DONT GO DIGITAL!!!

i went wtf when i saw the tubescreamer on the list and a ton of digitals.

edit add: ds 1 is cheap, but if you try any of the 2 pedals i mentioned above, you know what i mean by 'you pay for what you get'

I really recommend the Beta Aivin DS-100. Its also made of metal, so can resist stomping, and slightly more expensive than Behringer. Beta Aivin pedals range in price from $65 to $100+.

I have a AMT British Sound pedal. Replicates a Marshall overdriven amp well. Love it. : )

I use it with my modded Squier Standard Strat n got pretty close to a Deep Purple sound. Should work even better with humbuckers :)

hmm... im using a

keeley ts808 ( fantastic. 8/10 )
Analogman Maxon OD-9 ( Good. 7/10 )
Barber Direct Drive Super sport ( fantastic 9/10 )
GAS Rodenberg 828 ( Low Gain Boost and Singing Lead tone 8/10 )

Basically 10/10 is Amp gain ..
personally havent found a pedal that can get me tube saturation and amp responsiveness with the step of a switch.

The barber direct drive is really good value for money... i bought mine at a premium price then .. its about half the price now i think. its almost 2-3yrs on my board already... still going strong!

hope this helps!
