Distortion Pedals

i have a different take on this one...

ask yourself: what type of distortion do i need? intense/ mild/ fuzzy? one can recommend you the DS-1 & the Metal Zone but these 2 pedals give off a different distortion intensity, they cannot effectively replace each other. even the Zakk Wylde overdrive is a mild distortion unit. it's best to try various units & decide which one suits your needs. 8) of course, you can get back to us here...

i'm using a BOSS OS-2. Its quite versatile. You can get a rounded phat overdrive tone or scooped distortion type tones or you can dial in between the settings to get a mixed type of distortion sound. The OS-2 will not produce crushing over the top distortion like the MT-2 but i think it still sounds more organic, quite tubey. Maybe for your style of music i'd recommend a jackhammer instead. It has a more modern and slightly more compressed type of distortion sound.
Actually i think the amp you use it with will affect the overall tone it produces. I used to use it with a Marshall MG15R and then with a DSL401 and i must say that it sounded better on the MG15R. Somehow the OS-2 sounded a bit flat and with the DSL401. Now i use it only as a volume booster. Set Drive to 0 and the rest of the knobs to taste.

yes, thanks a whole lot to all the guitar pros here who have lent their valuable advice... i really appreciate it... seems I have indeed come to the right forum!

If you like the new Blink, Tbs and Funeral for a friend, just like me 8) , I think you need a DS-1 and SD-1.
The DS-1 for mild distortion, think (Blink-182 - M&Ms), SD-1 for a little more hardcore but not death metal type, think (Taking Back Sunday - A Decade Under The Influence) during the "Anyone ...." part.

It's about 75 in Swee Lee and 80 dollars at Davis. Though the price might hit 80 too after GST and all the stuff... not very sure about Swee lee since I bought mine from Davis weeks ago.

Hi guys,

Do you guys know anything about SD-2? Mind if I hear some feedback on it?

Alex, regarding difference between distortion and overdrive. It's actually a little hard to describe. But I'll try, and I'll put it this way:

Overdrive: this is when you put in more punch than your amp can take, hence giving you a soft crunch on the sound but yet it's tight and not messy.

Distortion: as the name suggests, this effect distort the sound entirely, you hear crunches on the sound (this is when we get mixed with distortion), but the signature of this sound is that the crunches don't sound organized and it's a mess, but, in a nice way. :)

please don't stone me if it still don't make sense.

What is the difference between an Overdrive and the Distortion?

Actually technically distortion and overdrive is the same thing. But some pple (eg BOSS) use "overdrive" to refer to a more vintage type and milder type of distortion like maybe Cortez the killer type of solo.
"Distortion" would instead refer to a more buzzier type of distortion, with scooped mids etc. eg. rhythm for Cemetery gates.

There are lot of grey areas in between. no real definition to distinguish between the 2. just guidelines lah.

just do a search on google, there will be much more well defined definition between overdrive and distortion.

To go into technical side, the difference is even more obvious and clearly explained. And yes, there is a well defined differences between the 2 term.....

Just got the VS Route 66....and it KICKS ASS!

The overdrive is just so creamy and full of character at the same time...plus the compressor is so really useful...very versatile pedal if not really into metal or things like that.

ok, does anyone have any experience with the MXR DOUBLESHOT DISTORTION pedal? how bout the VISUAL SOUND HYDE AND JEKYLL pedal? ROCKTRON SILVER DRAGON?

imo the VS route 66 is much better value for money than the VS hyde & jekyll. tried it at mrmisse last time.

What and where are cash converters?

I think you should get off the internet ASAP and start walking around. There are about 6 or more branches of these 2nd hand shops all around Singapore.

Guys, go out and get some sunshine. If you keep on staying on the vitual world, all you gonna get is a bad attitude on life and a mouldy backside.

No, thats not the one. There would be a big sign that says "Cash Converters". There's one branch in the Sogo building in Tampines and another 1 near the bedok library.

if u want a heavy sound like pantera or other metal bands just use a heavy metal pedal combined together with a tubescreamer it get really heavy sound.boss hm1 & maxon st9.
