Distortion Pedals

ds-1, easy to use. especially if you're new to distortions. plus it's cheap.
but for more bite, i would go for digitech grunge.

"I just bought a DS-1 from cash converters for $15!! Yeah, but the paint is all stripped off by the previous owner, but it still works so who cares.. Haha.."

speaking of cash converters, few months back i saw this digitech grunge for $40 bucks... Now I'm banging my head why i didn't get that pedal!

Yeap try randolf mods. i went to his house yesterday and he showed me his modded SD-1(super overdrive) with 3 way switching. It sounded so much better than a TS-9DX stock that was placed beside with same settings.
It retained the depth and bass and i was absolutely blown off by it.

I just sent my DS-1 for modding to ULTRA-mod at Randolf's place.

Now looking for a SD-1 so i can get it modded too..

Btw his place is at Toa Payoh. Say i recommend u k. i'm evan.
how many bucks for a ds-1 mod?

i recommend the death metal pedal by digitech,
it has a super metal sound yet its able to play blink and stuff too. AMAZING PEDAL!

sansamp

no way dude.
From my experiance. Sansamp GT2 simply owns, authentic and very useable tube sounds. Its basically a pre amp pedal which allows to choose what kind of amp/distortion you want. Theres like a huge variety of different tones and distortion available too you. It is THE only distortion pedal you will need, except maybe a booster pedal or EQ to boost the mids, as some of the lead tones sound slightly thin.
The downside is that it costs about 250 to 300 for a new pedal, but it is worth the money.
google search the pedal and check it out yourself.

just curious: how does this pedal compare to cb? say, in terms of gain.

it has a pretty wide gain range, from TS-ish all the way to full out crunch. it can do a clean boost too...turn down the gain and up the volume.

The CB on the other hand has a more of a "Marshall in a box" amp kinda tone. In terms of gain wise, the CB defintely has more than a hotcake. plus it sounds tighter and more compressed...with a healthy mid-range presence.

If you are the kind who wanna play full out thrash and super tight riffing kinda metal....think metalzone...that demands super-scooped mids....den both pedals are not for you.

Anyways i was kidding about getting the hotcake to do metal....i normally use it to boost the lead channel of my amp.

haha bro, yeah sansamp for the win. i find the sounds from the pedal rather thin though. a good alternative would be the AMT distortion station, with much thicker bass and mids.
