greetings friends 8-)

i'm sure there are many delay enthusiasts out there who swear by their acquired gems. in addition to sharing why a certain pedal works for you, let's discuss if the type of delay matters...

are there players out there who have zero tolerance for this effect type? why? i think i'm one of them... gee...

I think there are good used for both types.

I like Digitals sometimes mainly because of the clean harsh tones you get from the delay. These tend to stand out very clearly in the mix, and it's easier to sound like crap with them.

But Analogs are nicely, well... Analog. They sound more organic, and easier to mold into the mix.

I personally prefer to use analogs generally because of the subtle reverb-sh touch they can add to a track, but for weird echos, I think the digitals are more suited because there's more presence.

Analog delay/echo for me.

I don't need 5 sec of delay when doing a solo, and i prefer more natural decaying repeats only an analog delay can give.

Plus if you shred, too much delay can muddy up the sound and your notes.

For a simple slapback effect, or slightly longer delay w/o any modulations, I'd def go for an analog delay. Digital delays offer a lot more variety e.g. reverse delay, ping-pong, yada yada, and typically each digital delay unit has >1 tweakable preset, so digital delays are particularly useful for live gigs where various delay settings are needed. I personally use digi delay, but I tend to always use the "analog" setting with some hi-cut.

The Mad Professor Delay is digital but it works in an analog way. Very warm and tasteful.
i still hear the dm-2 in my head every now and then though...that's da bomb...

to me Digital delay sounds terrible itself, but in a band situation it is "masked" so aint that bad. Have to use abit of modulation to it to make it sound better. Analog delay sounds good by itself without other instrutments or modulation.

does reverb and delay sound the same to anyone out there?

oh, for those who dont like digital delay, list down those digital delay you have tried
for anarog delay tried, list down the pedal also.

Imho, in order to have better result in the poll, it be great to see the comparisons amaong the stuff being tried then to focus on just digital/analog.

heh, it matters to some i guess

those on digital side, some craved for analog
those on analog, cant understand why digital
those on both, nothing to differenciate as both are just tool

end of the day, the context of usage prolly weigh more than what its made off. Afterall, some talk till cow come home, the warm delay all hidden in back ground and only those who listen to tone can hear it instead of listening to the overall music

oh and before anymore shooting off, must make sure that the delay one has tried, really is anarog one and not those digital one but analog voiced...

I have 2 analog delays:-

EHX DMM and CmatMods Deeelay

I find them useful for slapback and adding some body into solos.

But I wish I had a digital that I can use somehow and experiment.

I really want to try this:-

When playing live, have a delay with 2 outputs, and each miced up to a different channel on a mixer and one panned right, one left to give it a very nice ambiance.

I rikes
EH Deluxe Memory Man modded and rewired
Ibanez EM5 Echomachine
Line6 DL4
Boss DM2
Ibanez DE7

I disrikes
Boss DD123456
Boss DM3
DOD DFXsomethingsomething

And probably rike and lot more and disrikes a lot more... but thats just me.

So many DELAYS but so little TIME.

I have an EHX DMM, modded for True Bypass and coupla other mods(by analogman and Antelope FX) that I cant recall(Edder please shed some light on this)....its the warmest delay Ive ever played...and I love it...takes up a hell loada space...but it sounds better than any delay Ive tried....

I can't recall too cos I wasn't the one who did the mods!

I only did power supply right and/or maybe truebypass?

poll within poll!

How many got suck in to the anarog thingy after reading forums?
How many focus on features other than just tone of delay
How many tried more than 5 anarog delay?
How many tried more than 5 digital delay?

oh, the mod of DMM, came across article on howard davis mod or some other people, changing the mn 3005 or was it mn3008 to either one of it

after trying many delays, i still prefer my amp reverb... but recently went shopping to find something for my Valve Jr attachment.

nostalgia bro...

it is... I may sound like a broken record but I purposely went up KL Bentley just to buy this pedal. Never even check the price... see, paid cash, go. Those were the days without internet and e-commerce.

but arent both pretty different sounding?

i mean, its kinda like distortion and overdrive. While distortion with gain down, migh do overdrive, but overdrive with gain turn up doesnt necessary be distortion
