So many DELAYS but so little TIME

well said edder....

i like digital cuz v clean n wont mud up n got lots of repeats function, n can tap!!! I like anal-og cuz it sound warm n lush n has that nice decay.

Really depends wat music i using it for, n wat

i like dm2 for analog, echoczar sounds sweet also... cant go v wrong with a memory man also.

i like the tone of the digitech digidelay but the stupid 2 sec tap thing is just sian. line 6 echo park also nice n dark sounding to my ears lah. Boss dd20 v sweet but i need more anitdote

Anyone likes the thick reverb of the shadows? hank marvin?

the fundamentals of these are common. both delay & reverb are distant repeats of the input signal. the ones repeating at an extensive rate are termed 'delay' as reverb are quick-timed responses, regardless of the depth. there are many delay pedals capable of doing a reverb application but not many echo type efects can be extended to delay convincingly...

fundamentals are the same agreed cos the fundamentals are time based.

But for me... delays and reverbs are 2 different animals altogether.

Simply put... one is staggered while the other is seamless.

actually most delay can do the reverbish thingy just by turning the delay time down and provided the delay can go down to 10ms and lower, it can do the hollow-ish thingy which some peoople hear it as reverb.

but the opposite, no that common coz perhaps not much peope be using a reverb for delay purposes.

kinda like i want distortion, but i rather use overdrive to get distortion. Without stacking or blasting amp

yup, that's what i'm referring to: time-based displacements... i have a psychological acceptance of the delay effect i guess, something repeating at the background while i'm playing is really annoying.

yeah i know that kinda "reverb" but the sounds that comes out of it... sucks lah. unnatural and clumsy and SHORT. we is wants longestest reverbs macam that time we went inside Bukit Timah Caves to chitchoohooohooooo all nite rongs...

heh, i noe, broebro, but just wanna put it across more clearly mah. Cos seem like delay and reverb sound the same to bro sub bro cos of the time

i only worried that people be influence to see the same thing, ike the time when someone ask for reverb pedal but somehow delay gottten into it. Heh, wonder hweres the thread liao. Must go dig

i love analog delay for creating ambience. its warm sound.. wahh shiok.
digital delay is for solid stuff, like u2. its much more cool. note the contrast, cool and warm. lol.

what is tape echo? can it delay for very long also? issit like some pure analog thing?

digital aint always cold.

get a yamaha magicstomp or the ud stomp and see what it can do. So much controls in there that can really make a true analog delay sound normal instead...

a good digital delay can be tweaked and according to context of usage to be steady sounding while an analog delay can be used to sound like $50 tone when hidden in the background just to thicken the tone or add couple of space..

imho

i use a digitech digidelay. quite versatile, imo. 7 modes.. out of which 5 are pretty useful. the tape mode has a nice warm feel and natural sounding decay.. the normal delays are pretty useful.. reverse delay is practically useless, because it echos what you play in reverse, instead of playing the reverse alone. loop is too short to do proper looping, but fun to play around with.

i personally like analog delays mainly cos it just has that warm natural sound to it. but the digidelay is good cos i can get both analogish and long delays from it. plus the tap tempo is useful.

i tried a few delay pedals before I tried the DMM...tried the BOSS DD series 3 and 5, Ibanez delay(cant remember), Dano Delay, delays from multieffectors.....then the DMM came along and changed my world..I dun use delay for anything apart from wetting my sound....so the DMM serves well

I used to know a kickass guitarist called Christopher who had a JPM P3 and JEMs who used the nick "bluepowder" on ICQ. Is that you?
