This senseless act of cowardice sickened me to my stomach...an onslaught on civilians..non-combatants most of them..by youths potraying themselves as mujahedeens..all in the name of jihad...
Jihad or not, what scares me about this scenario is not that it's about religion, or how far religious beliefs can take the human hand. Religion is but one reason to carry out such actions. Any other reason would still have been able to push such forces into play.
What scares me about this is actually the scale of the attacks, and how they managed to pull it off. This was a well thought out plan, well executed and horribly solved. The Indian authorities were obviously incapable of handling a situation like this. I doubt any other nation could have handled it much better unless they had a full fledged team of counter terrorists constantly trained. There are only a FEW countried in this world who have that capability, and at this point, only the british SAS and the US Special Ops teams come into mind. After Sept 11, it's odd that so much was spent worldwide on the offensive front, but so little on the defensive front. These Terrorists were most certainly NOT a small bunch of rabble with low tech capabilities. They had funding, they had training, and they had purpose. That's the WORST kind of terrorist to have.
Yet, with all the money the US Govt and the British Govt and even ours has spent on intelligence, how did such a large and capable force escape detection? These guys came by BOAT! They sauntered into the hotels and otehr places of prominence undetected! The AK47s were bought off the black market! With who's money????
That's the scary bit. As much as we try to hunt these groups down, there will always be those who want to do things, and those who are prepared to do. What scares me is that at this point they can't even confirm who their backer is!
This is precisely the scary scenario that Tom Clancy wrote about in "Rainbow Six". Damn...
