Anyone digs Synyster Gates?

for me Octavarium was a significant album cos it was the album that introduced me to Dream Theater (though most fans of Dream Theater and their older stuff dislike that album).

Who told you most DT fans dont like Octavarium?? Go check out most of the DT forums. That's usually one of the most talked about!!!! It was FII that was initially disliked. But people grew used to it. I loved that album! Old Skool tone!

oh is it? i never knew it cos most reviews i read on the album have been really very negative and most people think that train of thought and six degrees are better. though i find The Great Debate very lame. i always thought that the title track off octavarium is dam epic haha.

perhaps its cos octavarium isnt "metal" enough compared to their previous efforts (eg train of thought which i thought was pretty heavy).

To go back to the thread.. I'm going to write about A7X..
When I discovered them, they were not huge yet.. They were still largely unknown.. Was quite a listener to hardcore music at that time, and A7X fit the bill..
I found their music to be quite repetitive in terms of ideas and style, and they were nothing much different from the tonnes of other bands out there..
BUT, their slow ballads are really something.. Much more musical, and would be a part of my daily playlist anyday.. As for their forte, their heavier songs, I'll let other bands fulfil my hunger for that!

alright this is my opinion on syn:

he is a good guitarist. alot of his riffs are almost the same tho (beast and the harlot and girl i know. unholy and chap 4 and etc...) u mentioned he nvr miss a note? he actually does in singapore !. the song seize the day during the sweeping part. youtube it. alot of ppl hate a7x for their fans, theyre getting more mainstream by the album. we can almost see any types of ppl during the queue last fri (mothers, fathers, emos, punks, teens, rich kids, small kids and etc ) . im not dissing him or the band, syn is actually one of my fav guitarist and he is the reason why i picked up guitar, they make very good music too (dear god jus change my whole mindset of them, lucky they didnt play it last fri!). now im exploring more good guitarist.

my advice is, syn's not gonna be ur fav for long trust me. so start wiki-ing for good guitarist. even syn has influences, try listening to them (pantera, gnr and etc) too or try buckethead he plays way better than syn and other legends im too lazy to type out. its all abt exploring =).

p.s: dont we just hate a7x fans, always trying to prove tt a7x is the best band in the world. i used to believe tt till i saw alot of good bands out thr !

overall rating for a7x : 8/10
fans:3/10 (some are ok)
musicianship: 8/10 (alot of their songs are amazing)
solos: 8/10(thnx to awsm syn, i always get inspired looking at him play and i get back to my routine thnx)

a7x loves singapore anyways, so thumbs up to them!

have you ever met a7x fans? and have u been to their concert? the queue was pathetic almost made me hate a7x. if u go on youtube. they are always protesting abt syn is so much better than alot of guitarist. that is what made me hate a7x fans, some band's fan are humble and respect other musician. and btw i didnt say i hated all fan of every band ever.

i know you didn't. but every fan of a band will say that their band is the best band in the world. so if all those led zep fans say that led zeppelin is the best band in the history of music you'd hate them? :S also, i say billy corgan is better than any other guitarist out there. like every other smashing pumpkins fan out there.

i mean what hunderworld was referring to was fanboys, not the fans per se. cos only fanboys bother doing things like uploading videos saying that "a7x is the best band ever" and stuff like that. i have saw such videos before (a kid saying that slipknot is the best and he enjoys being a maggot. lol a cockroach in the future? and he got pretty emo and almost wanted to cry, was like begging people to agree that slipknot is like, the greatest band, of all time) and it sure is irritating.

yeah totally agree with you. i even saw aunties headbanging during the concert LOL! i have no idea why even aunties or families go for the concert haha. next up they will be going for the taste of chaos tour :x

Nah... grew immune to it because I lived thru the "Kirk Hammett is a guitar god" era and fought my way through defending Petrucci...:mrgreen:
