This is my personal opinion. I think if your girlfriend loves you, she should be able to understand your passion for music and and give you emotional support, if she doesn't , then you're jus not compatible.Bub come to think of it, if you really love her , you guys should work out a compromise.

fgl

use liao also no use...got an even harsher reply instead...... :? though i didnt use wat was mentioned exactly above...tok abt drinking, clubbing and flirting wif gals arnd stuff like tht...

Totally agree with Rollercoaster.

If your girlfriend was understanding enough of your passion, she'll be supportive, just like you would be too, if it were her interest.

At the end of the day, both parties should come to a compromise if they really want to the relationship to work out. If it's one of those "me, me, me and only me" girls, then you're better off legging it alone.

My girlfriend and I used to quarrel a lot about me spending a lot of time on music, but over the years, we've managed to make a lot of compromises, and almost five years on, we're still together.

She still goes to all of my gigs, but it does help that she's nuts about SRV, Satriani, Dream Theatre and Los Lonely Boys, among others.....hell, I'm a lucky guy!

Tell the b*tch to F off pls, really man, dont waste your time on this kind of girl. No offense, but my brother did that. And hes living a happy life now as a full time musician. Decide quick, it is a stupid reason u know. Or what u can do is find out what she likes most, have passion for and shit, and give her a threat.(that passion of hers of u.) Good luck man!

omg...basket...i got no gf, can't drink, suck at gambling and have very little money. this thread amuses me. luckily i am young and innocent :D

i dont think girlfriends would even tell their musician boyfriends to quit. in fact, most of them would support their musican boyfriends in their musical passion. that explains groupies lol kidding

i may have no experience in this, but just in case this situation go awry, i may have to break up with her. really, i have been playing the guitar for almost 2 years and i wont quit just because my partner asks me to. no i wont. i have other better reasons to quit. sure, theres the heartbreak and the silent tears and the struggle to regain your mentality, but sad to say, thats the sacrifice of a musician who has promised to strive in his promise to improve his skill.

and im that kind of musican

Right on, Fenderrules.

Partners ought to hold on to their passions. When couples take time off to pursue their passions, or have time for themselves, they can bring new perspectives to the relationship; spicing it up.

If you are supposed to give up this and give up that, then you are no longer that person she fell in love with initially, but merely a puppet customised to by her whims.

if i break up with her, i can just turn emo.. go cut my wrist, oil my hair and wear eyeliner.. ok.. kidding.. no offence to emo ppl yeah..
chill..

but seriously, consider dumping ur gf.. if u're sad, write a sad song, play it for us, and get ur gf to hear.. mayb she'll be so touched she'll come back... then she'll understand ur music is not just a hobby, but a passion, a way of life... as integral a part of ur life as eating and drinking...

well my last girlfriend was a musician too so it's okay i guess. now the girlfriend before her was...

usually, girls who dont understand their bf's passion for music are lians.. who only understand techno and have no clue about guitars and stuff.. and when u say bands, they think immediately of f4 or 5566... had an ex that was like that.. dumped her cuz she confronted me with the same qns and i was damn pissed off with her shallow minded attitude..

hahah she might actually be thinking u're the shallow one when she says band n u don immediately think of F4 and 5566..

SING FOR YOUR BELOVED!

how abt writing a piece for her? Loving enough for her to love u n ur guitar? It cant be so bad till she HATES music.
no one HATES music...

hmm yea i've never heard of anyone who hates music. Good point.

I actually spend more on guitar stuff than on my gf, but it's all cool cos she totally understands what musical passion is all abt. She absolutely KILLS on the chinese Pipa. So proud of her :o
