I was on the train just minutes ago, and suddenly this woman (probably an SPG???) appeared behind me and spoke loudly in her fake accent (the typical half singaporean, half american accent) on the phone to her friend.

"So when you talk to those ang mohs, do you like speak differently to them?"
*pause while person she's talking to replies*
"Oh like shit man!" (she said it very awkwardly, totally forced out)
*pause while person she's talking to replies*
"You know, there're like 2 girls in my company, they will SLANG when they talk to those ang mohs you know? Ya, they always SLANG when they talk to ang mohs!"


WAAAAAA...That totally irritated the crap out of me lah, got me so worked up inside...haha im sorry if i sound like im overreacting, but this woman is obviously a sucker for ang mohs, yet wanted to pretend that she wasn't..and she can't even speak proper english(fake accent aside). Best thing was, she caught the attention of a short botak ang moh, who probably heard her loud voice through his earphones, and stared at her...Wow, he's probably gonna be impressed.

We don't do it because we are suckers for ang mohs, but rather their unique musical styles, skills and techniques, am I right? I mean, I think they're cool, but it never once occured to me that it was because of their race.. :s

haha i think you see it as a matter of taste right? In that case, her choice certainly conflicted badly with my idea of tastefulness. But in order to see it from such an angle, I should not be getting angry, but be respectful of her choice. And I got angry...=P

I once saw a female lecturer in school taking an ang moh visitor around the school, and when at the cai fan stall, she tried to place her order with the aunty at the stall in a fake american accent(a very very shoddy version) , all because she was in the presence of an ang moh..Now thats a wrong time and setting to use an improper accent when you already possess the proper one.

Is it really wrong/annoying to alter the way you speak inorder to convey your message clearly? I mean, I've got tons of friends from different countries, and whenever I'm with, lets say indonesians, I find myself immitating their enunciation and such so that I'll be able to communicate efficiently. And most of the time I try to speak with a neutral accent.
