Why are most drummers male?

First of all there are Female-Drummers (and they are pretty good), but for most Female - I guess they perceived Drumming as something to be "For Guys".

It does have something to do with Physical Strength too (you are not wrong) - because Drumming is very Physical.

PS: - But it good for a Female to take up Drumming, it's facinating as there are not many Female Drummers around...Scarcity mah....

Are you a Female Drummer?

I do not and will never discriminate against female drummers however, I personally feel that guys look that bit better seated on a drum seat, banging his life away. And plus, some drummers are so f****** hot its really such a turn-on watching them play with such passion & see them get all sweaty. Ooh...Yummy....*Licks lips*

no idea really. here in australia most of the singers in my uni are female. there's like 2 male singers out of 14, and they both kinda suck

I think guys are usually more energetic than females, and most females tend to think that drums are a bit too rough for them, you know, they want this "Hello, I'm gentle and demure!!!" kind of thing hahahaha. Can relate to soccer.

Actually its also being taught from young la. Cant blame them. Imagine everyday your mother come and say "Eh, you girl leh!!! Can you sit with your legs closed?!" "Eh, you girl leh!!! You must learn to be gentle, cannot so rough, next time no boys like you!!!" and finally "Eh, you girl leh!!! Learn what drums?!"

I know because I experience before, but I guess I have this inborn personality thing: I know I don't have to give a damn about stereotypes.

There are enough female drummers.

What we DON'T have enough are female lead guitarists... and I am not just talking Singapore.

I hardly ever see girl drummers. Personally, I'd like to see more of them. It's probably because of their background.

Also, I notice certain instruments have gender stereotypes, and drums is definitely one of them. Maybe that's what puts them off playing in the first place. Flute, PICCOLO, clarinet and oboe etc (small) seem to be feminine instruments as opposed to trombone, tuba, drums, bass etc which are masculine (big)

But drumming really isn't about how much muscles you have or how sweaty you are, so there's no reason women don't look good behind the drumkit.

Well, to get back on topic - I think the main reason why you don't see many female drummers around here is basically because you don't see many female musicians as compared to males - except for the vocalist/keyboardist-range.

And also, as some have mentioned, it's less typical for a female to take up the drums as compared to other instruments, or they take it up and find it's not for them. This is unless she's really into it.

I saw a drummer playing a couple years ago in Orchard, and she was pretty kick-ass - even with her heels on!

i think coz drumming is like quite intense (for rock) alot of movement, headbanging....

and u get quite a work out and after the gig u get sweaty. (have u seen a fat drummer before? i havent)

while maybe more girl drummers for blues or jazz
