The Stratocaster Appreciation thread

wah you hardcore kinman fan man ...
i had the avn blues set once... with gold plated pole pieces! and the entire wiring assembly... its really something you can install yourself.. very cool.
ultra quiet too! even with high gain...

Heh. yeah. I like Kinmans. Haven't tried anything this good. Don't mention Fralins, because they're good, but not noiseless. And almost anything else that's noiseless doesn't sound as good.

But the blues set is something I actually didn't like. I like the Hank Marvins even better. Strangely, this is the set I thought I'd never get...

White strat you got try Bill Lawrence?

Mainly Fender SCNs and something else my friend has, which I'm not sure what it is. For some reason, BL pickups (maybe cos they're ceramic) tend to be a bit too clean for my liking. very "in your face". Doesn't have much bell tones. I love bell tones. That's something the Hank Marvins have. A LOT. Kinmans are Alnico magnets, and even though I personally don't think there's any difference when it comes to magnetism, I can't deny I prefer Kinmans.

Sadly the Kinmans that came my way ... were crap !!
These guitars were over at my place for swap either to BL's of back to true single coils! Imo ...Kinmans are more for the clean type stuff ...with dirt, i am chocking under a blanket.

Every noiseless sc loses not just hum but also the 'bite' and 'smoke' of a true sc ...i rather play bridge + mid pup on true single coil than a noiseless!

For clean i rather play a piano

try suhr v60lp with the SSC system. leaves all the true single coil tone plus really no hum at all. i tried many times to ab the guitar with and without the use of the ssc and there isnt any diff except for the hum.

anyone tried lace sensors on thier strats? i got a set of holy grails on, not too shabby, but i'm thinkin of swapping them out for some dimarzio ones and chuck the lace in to my other strat. or maybe even boutique, erm noob question, do kinmans count as boutique? and where might i get them?

Kinmans are boutique... www.kinman.com

I've tried the LACE ones. Not holy grails, but the active LACE Sensors. It's me. Not the pickup. I don't know how to judge actives, because I don't have that much experience with those, but I find them pretty dead. Not really touch sensitive. Maybe it's the set I tried, or maybe it was the set up. But I'm so not an active person, I might be the wrong person to comment.

I'll stop talking now... :P

Which set?

ALL !!
I got one currently in the process of removal for true sc Lindy's

BTW...i got fellas who love their Kinmans ....so its pretty much of personnal preference .....but i dont like em !! :D

Heh... yeah. I just can't stand the interference susceptability of true SCs... I like to be able to play my strat near ANYTHING and not worry about interference, or feedback, unless intentional. Fralin Vintage Hots really sound amazing. But they do need to be coupled with that Suhr bassplate, which I feel still changes the tone. Can't really be bothered to do that, so I'm very happy with Kinmans. I think that amongst the noiseless options out there, these are simply the best.

Still have em with me bro ...but not using coz my music needs hums.
It will be used if i want a single coil action ...will Not sell em as they were kinda custom lah !!

yeah.. my old ST72..

the kinmans were not bad la...

but the v60lps are really much better in terms of tone. its not noisy. but will give you the standard single coil nuisance la...

the SSC system is too exx for meeee lol ... penta thanks for helping me bring those v60lps in man .. i got em on another guitar now... killa. will post pics of my strats soon.. picking up my seafoam green one from KC later at peninsula...

ure welcome. i too am still in love with the v60lp on my guitar. all the chime and bell tone u can ever want from singles. chan go invest in the SSC, its damn bleeding good but i heard theres the EH hum debugger, might be good tho ive never had the chance to try it. i just got myself another nice strat, the squier hello kitty guitar and ive to say it plays better than most strats ive tried plus the look is just mojo!
