The P-90 camp

just counting who's into the P-90/ soapbar & its associates. i used to own the LP Studio GEM:

was rather upset with the overall tone/ QC of the guitar per se but recently invested in:

i feel that if you are into guitar tones/ voicings per se, the P-90 is a must-explore avenue.

anyone else treading the P-90 path & loving it?

i may tread into the p-90 path with a gibson bfg though Then again i may not, will have a stronger decision once i actually tried the BFG or rather, the p-90.

recently joined the P-90 camp! dropped a pair of P-90 type bill lawrence pickup into my epi les paul. loving the sound!

Those bill lawrence are FAR from being P90's like. Too refined, too polite, too modern, too clear and too technologically advanced to be a neanderthal P90. They are great pickups to own but they're not anywhere near the P90s category.

Real P90s are in yer face, middy growls and with more spank and clarity compared to a humbucker. Like an oily grease soaked artery clogging 1 pound burger vs a perfectly grilled medium rare wagyu.

i have a Gibson SG Classic w/ dual P-90s that should be arriving from Japan sometime this week.

edder: i got to admit the BLs are quite mild/sweet sounding. i could get slightly less growl from my les paul now. on the other hand, the dynamic of the pickup can make your playing growl-ish.. if you get what i mean

haven't tried a *real* P-90 though. haha

what edder is saying here is that those BLs are too refined to properly emulate a P-90 in its essence.

if that's the case, it's good to A/B a P-90 equipped guitar with a regular single coil/ humbucking guitar to hear the diff...

it sounds like guitar, clean as clean when clean and agressive as fierce when going through anything with gain and dreamy like dream when modulated and it is a trumpet as well when the guitar synth is included with it
