The Ernie Ball Music Man Thread

i'll stick to my ibanez for now.
no point having a pretty axe and not being able to play pwnage stuff on it eh? (:

You can still have a pretty axe. A lot of the players here buy pretty guitars and keep them as investment and works of art too. Nothin wrong with that.

EBMM will love you to death bro. Haha. Lets assume EBMM quality on par with a good MIJ Fender, $1000. You were sayin 5-10 guitars. Okay, take 5. One of these sparkles dont cost $5000. It dont cost $4000. Not even.... No I cant say any more.

Thats the wonder of EBMM and why I like them. Boutique quality but at affordable price (if you get from me). Brother Joshuak - time to give EBMM a try. I guarantee you to like it, you will be amazed at the playability, and you can admire the finishes all day long....

Ooi.. bro. I was talking about Ernie Ball guitars in general. Just walk in to Sinamex and see the $5-6k+ EB guitars. Of course there are the more affordable EBs.

Btw, there are also some more good workhorse guitars that cost less than $500.

Right now, I have a few too many quality guitars... maybe we pm to trade someday :p

heh it's a personal thing.
i don't think there's a point in me buying such a pretty axe when i have the liability of damaging it while not being able to play it properly.

it's a personal achievement thing i guess, like getting a guitar that looks good and plays when you can play well and truly bring out the beauty of it :D

Sure bro! Sinamex has a reason for their pricing man. You buy from them, you are paying for warranty and customer support. I not going to talk much on these well-discussed things..

Anyway you are right about $500 bucks workhorse guitars. But I would pay a bit more for those MIJ Strats you mentioned. Anyway I have now look the EBMM way for something non-conventional to the strat style guitars.

Since you've come into an EBMM thread... The Silo/Silo Spec will be great, depending on what pickup configurations you want, and whether you're picky about the 22/24 fret harmonic stuff...

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The only 5~6k guitar sitting in Sinamex is the BFR JP, others are around 3k...

For example, MIJ Fender Strats or MIK Ibanez that cost between $500 to $1000? It must be able to produce good sound, have good intonation and durable enough to last for years.

You've never owned an EBMM right? And I think you really don't know what one consists of. To compare it to a MIJ Fender? Or even an MIA? erm... okay... It's a free society...

Ok... rather than turn this into a bashing thread or a fanboy thread, let me shed some insight to EBMM guitars that many people (and some owners) aren't aware of...

  • short headstock - no string trees or angled headstocks required to ensure angled and even tension on all strings.
  • Compensated nut - For pitch perfect tuning. Of course, the minor drawback is that it's not that accurate for alternative tunings.
  • 10" radius necks - Perfect balance for chording and leads.
  • polished unflattened medium jumbo frets - I like jumbos, like those on the JP6, but i find myself getting more and more engaged with the guitar with those medium jumbos on Silos... Makes the frets super smooth to play.
  • Easy access truss rod adjustments - C'mon man... makes DIY jobs a breeze. neck bends a bit? turn it yourself!
  • Quartersawn necks - These are expensive to buy off the shelf for other companies. They usually give other cuts which are cheaper. yet they charge EBMM pricing. Why pay more for less?
  • piezo options - erm.. the last I checked, no one else offers this great fishman solution with EQ at this price. Until now. I heard that some other big brands are offering this at a stupidly expensive price...
  • standard trems come with brass sustain blocks. Which other company do you know offers this as a standard option on trems? I was very pleasantly surprised to find this out...
These are the general characteristics of a EBMM. I'm not even going into BFRs and mahogany toneblocks for that matter. All this for a price of... (I'll let Ripper chime in on this...)

So. Does a $500 MIJ or even a $4,500 MIA Fender or any other brand give you this? For the price, you can't even get a Suhr or Tyler to give you all this!!!

That's true... The G&G not really sux lah... but I prefer the SKBs... The G&Gs I hand carried back from tokyo for my 20th and the one petruccirocks sent me were very solid... but heavy, and I felt AFRAID to carry them around. I prefer the SKB flightcases they gave for the JP6.

Maybe yours got damaged or was a bad piece? You check with the dealer?

They're all very different guitars. WHAT kind of sound are you looking for?

I prefer something with a humbucker, but strats is an option..
I like the crunchy distortion tones, like acdc and whatnot. So, an SG has a humbucker, strats has single coils, the silhouette has both. But what's the price range for it?

Hey Plastic,

I MIGHT be selling off my sunburst silhouette (refer to my older posts or PM me for pics)
If you're interested, feel free to drop me a PM?

Thanks

The Silhouette will not give you want you'd expect from a Strat (24 fret vs 22 fret difference). Not unless you buy the Silhouette Special (like the black one Ripper showed). The SG is mahogany. The Silos are Alder. It's not really a marriage of the best of both worlds. They're very different. It's a matter of deciding what you want.

If you want that vintage rocker tone, honestly, any guitar can give you that with the right pup/EQ/amp combination. (Unfortunately the SS doesn't have HH configs due to the routings...) But the standard Silo CAN give you a good enough tone for your uses...

For the price, PM Ripper. I know aside from this white one I'm getting, he's got another one up his sleeve that's very much Ritchie Blackmore!!!:twisted::twisted:

Haha, man, if you're willing to ship. Gotta wait a few months before I get the cash man.

One thing I also want is versatility.. I think that EBMM has that.. Just haven't gotten my hands on one to try it out yet.. soon though, gottta find dealers here 1st.

Haha. Not damaged lah. I just dont like the idea of a purdy guitar sliding up & down the case. Do you know the headstock can hit the side board, if the side wall of the flimsy interior compartment give way? Unlike the SKB, which can restrict movement by snugging the 2 horns of the guitar tightly. Yup, bloody heavy - all shipping money paid to transport a useless case! But it look nice though...never seen a beautiful blue tolex case b4.

I didn't mention because many other brands do offer noiseless pickups... and for those who only want humbuckers, the silent circuit is pointless...

And, I'm quite sure the silent circuit does affect the single coil tone slightly... But there are many who also say it doesn't...

Doesn't the case have something that holds the guitar by one horn at least? My cases for the 20ths have it...

Yeah... I love the plush case... But it's kinda fragile... The standard SKB case is so much better...
I bought one just for my BFR :D
