tattoos effects on your life?

Well I really love tattoos, and I plan to get one soon. Any recommendations for a good local tattoo artist? PM me please, don't wanna break the flow of the discussion.

And as Goose said, if you're not sure, don't!

Honestly I disapprove of tattoos despite my decision to get one.

What I feel is before you plan to get one, think really deeply about how are you going to answer to yourself, your parents, and most of all, God (if it applies) :)

well, what kind of designs are you going for?

biomech? jap? ol skool?

there're artists here who're really really good at a specific kind of tattoo.

Personally, I'd only do a tattoo that I design myself (of course, with improvisation from the artist) so that it's truely personal, and 'custom-made' for me, with its own significance that's meaningful to me.

As for the self-expression part, people get tattoos for so many different reasons, not just as a 'fashion statement' or something. Some use it to commemorate something, like important occasions, incident, life-changing moments, etc while others do it to cope with traumatic events, losses of loved ones, etc.

I nearly got one, went to do lots of research and even designed one myself, but didn't like it enough to last a lifetime (back to the drawing board) *lol*

As for how it affects life, typically it is advised to avoid tattooing places that can't be covered up when in official/'business' situations in which appearances might influence the outcome...like the hands, face, neck, etc. Otherwise, if you've decided to ink it, flaunt it in the social aspect of your life ;)

P.s Miami Ink rocks :P

i reckon the place on one of the top floors of the Heeren, this guy called jap. i used him before and seen him work, he's very gd

there's a price to pay for quality work.
If you guys are willing to pay up to $130 per hour, i can recommend you a couple.
By appointment only, not those street shops.

Tattoos aren't for poseurs who want to follow trends.

Miami Ink is good evidence. Look at their customers and you'll know. The people who won't regret their tattoos are people who truly appreciate it's beauty and got it not because they wanted to fit in or give people an idea that they're cool.

I remember watching an episode when this pastor went to Miami Ink to get a tattoo of her daughter who passed away from cancer. And of course, the wonderful Kat Von D did that job. =) The pastor got the tattoo for closure. Are pastors poseur kids? Haha.

I think the issue here is the lack of appreciation in an art form taboo-ed by society and narrow-mindedness. Is a tattoo any different from a Van Gogh painting? They're both art works but on different canvases. So why are tattoos "bad"? Just because it's on your body?

Shallow.

Quartet by Richard Smith will be on the back of my neck when I turn 21. =)

i thought protestants don't approve getting tattoos cause it's like the temple of God or something. That's what i heard...

good for you if u can appreciate the beauty of tattoo, but u can only do so for temporary period, as with all forms of art, no matter how obsessed you are with it, you cant appreciate it forever, sooner or later, you'll think its nothing special and you will no longer see the point having it.That is just being human. That is why i said in my previous post that tattoos only appease yourself on a temporary basis, but 'damage' is done on a permanent basis.

unless you have very significant attachments to the tattoos, or else i feel there must be another damn good reason to having tattoos besides to 'appreciate its beauty'

jnev,
poser is a word that harbours the same meaning as poseur

IMO, Acid Crue is just so-so.

and to whoever that said tattoos aren't meant to be appreciated for life, i reckon you're quite long. is your future wife gonna be appreciated for life? yes right? if you're thinking of playing the field when you're married then i rest my case.

of course, if you get a tattoo on impulse chances are you're going to wonder why in the first place you got it. however, if you've given much cnosideration about it, it's something that you'll always remember, always appreciated.

you'll forever remember the day you got yourself tattooed. like what happened, who you spoke to on the phone, etc. it's something that will be inked on you even when you're six feet under.

my 2cents.

kerplunk182: That's true to a certain extent. But protestants also believe in free-will. =D And a quote by Ami James that will always be remembered by me. It's from an episode when this girl got a tattoo even when her Catholic mum didn't approve of it. "If my God would condemn me just because I wanna get tattooed, I don't think that's the God I wanna worship." Well said.

hifi_killer: But I think even when you're tired of it, if you truly appreciate tattoos as an art form, you won't regret the tattoo and consider it as damage. =) And I don't think the love for it will be temporary. Even so, I think temporary will be a very looooong time. Haha.

LOL, just remember to cover up the multiple tattoos & piercings when you go apply for a job.
Imagine someone go apply for a teacher's job and comes to school with many piercings and tattoos. ;)
And would you buy from a salesman/woman with tattoos and piercings?
At least dyed hair is accepted as a social norm.

my primary school teachers had tattoos. But i only realised when i came to secondary school =x
