i using a akai shred-o-matic and boosting it with a boss ds2 someone i cant get the sound i want.
im not sure how to describe what i want in 'proper' terms but i want a more "modern metal" sound
any suggestions?

Try scooping the mids out on your amp's eq.

i own this pedal, one of the best i own. however, it's tube equipped, this migh account for the unique voicing compared to the non-tube pedals listed in the poll.

actually, modern metal is anti scooped mids.

more of a searing high end with a tight bottom end.

just think of a u-shaped graph.
that's scooped..it's when the mids are placed low in the EQ..

for amps..just do something like
lows 7
mids 3
highs 8

just an example...
