Superband top 18

turbochicken, the 3rd band is amber?.. right?.. i agree that the sound system was freaking SCREWED up TOTALLY IMO. It didn't do justice to all rock bands at all man, i was like wtF, i couldnt hear the guitars at all when lucify/jade/amber/other rock bands when they were playing..

Yes! When Lucify started, it was like "Oh my GOD! Does the engineers know how to do a live mix?" I couldn't hear the bass and drums and when Jade played, there was this sudden strong feedback from the guitar amp. All the bands have different audio levels or loudness i should say.

tere,

yeaup, amber. but afterward sound improved enough to make the rest of the bands sound much better than the first few.

that's the irritating thing.

The sound was shit. Not enough guitar. Not enough of the instruments in fact. It sounds like they are doing a mix for Singapore idol and the band is just a backing band.

Fux up arses fade down guitars when singer is singing then never turn up for solos or turn up too late.

Horribly stupid interludes and pre planned antics.
0 on the scale of creativity. (WHY THE FUX ARE THEY WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES THEY ARE WEARING ON THE TRAILERS)
0 on spontaneousness. (OK PAUSE!! WAIT FOR CUE... "WOOHOOO!!! THAT WAS A GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!")
-10 on stupid milk who ends every sentence with a "WOOO!!"

-20 on waiting for 1hr while they organised the placements of the crowd and what they had to do and should or should not do.

Boooooo on commerciallism. I'm reminded why I don't watch tv anymore.

Sorry i'm pissed.

For the first band lucify, i couldn't hear the guitar and bass.. guitar solo.. vocal is not loud enough.. i wonder do the judges realise this problem..

The sound setup was URGH. enough said.

I got to the place quite late, watched from the top area. So much screaming, every small thing also scream. Didn't see any one mosh or bodysurf though. Expected lah bah.

But in any case - great performance tt day turbochicken 8)

The judges concern was more on the vocalist singing skills and ability as well as X-Factor more than what the rest of the band members can do. Like one of the judges commented on Lucify vocalist.

Ai Ya. You ever seen live bands on TV meh?
Even their studio shot shows also no live bands so they got no experience mixing live bands lor. MediaCorp is pretty new into these area.

So it's not superband. It's super-vocalist-with-a-backing-band-or-cute-girls-in-short-skirts-or-singing-and-dancing-to-pre-recorded-tracks.

I was majorly pissed off when one of the judges said that ultimately it's a singing competition so the voice is more important than the stage show.

One thing I dont understand is that they got a Radio DJ as one of the judges...And wat the hell is Milk of Energy doing there as a host, jus because he was a boyband member? I think I noe where this competiion is heading....

Ya...How can they said that when this is a band competition where originality, showmanship, tightness and technical skills are the most important factors for a band to get the title. The judges gave comments more on the singing capabilty rather than the musicians and band overall comments. I just can't imagine if those acapella groups or boy/girl groups get the SuperBand title, how people like us who play in rock bands think? Instead of trying hard to promote and building up local Chinese rock band scene, MediaCorp seems like spoiling the hardwork of all the participating rock bands and in the end back to square one for all the bands.

..

jimz

better to have exposure than not to have any at all.

i felt that the last 3 bands left the deepest impression on me. rusty nailz, soul and qinobe. the rest were good too.

qinobe knew how to get the crowd going, which is really what a live show should all be about.

rusty nailz did their original, but not the song on their trailer, which, imho should have done. that way ppl will easily recall the song.

soul had super tight dance moves. a bit laggy in the end, but i felt that they even outdone milk and his dance act.

Rock bands, boy bands, girl bands. Love them or loathe them, it's all part of the music industry. We have to learn to live with it :)

MediaCorp have no live bands. so they got no experience mixing live bands lor.

I don't think so. Cause many years ago when they known as SBC, they do have a band.

The judge should be from a band as well. Like "May Day and Beyond etc..
cause this group sing and play as the same time.

MediaCorp has been producing lots of variety shows, including sitcoms, dramas which are mostly shot in their studio.
It is rare to ever see them doing live bands hence, they might not know how to handle a live show with band properly.
Even in Singapore Idol, the live band only played once unlike their American Counterparts. To them a minus one track is easier than getting a live band.

hmm... the question is, who is the sound engineer? might not be from TCS though. Colarndo, can call up and ask?

sometimes for tv production, the important thing is to record multi-track and do mixing back in studio. live sound can sound bad but when you watch the finished video on tv, it will sound great.

Lucify told Jeff that they are emulating Japan visual kei bands

Anyway, It is good to see a variety of "bands" on stage, but i guess we all noe what kinda band(s) are the judges/management/recording company looking for.

Tera... well... we must accept the fact that non-japs jrock bands will always be labeled jrockers wannabes. As the genre implies, "JROCK = JAPANESE ROCK"

Oasis are always labeled as "Beatles Wannabes" but they're the ones with $$ rolling into their pockets aren't they?

I've spoken too much...
