I think the whole thing is pretty dumb. They accept non-chinese, call the competition Superband and expect the contestants to sing only chinese songs. It doesn't help that it's showing on Channel U 'coz I don't think people of races other than chinese tune there. Even if there are, it's a minority.

They've got a chinese name for the event too, if it makes you feel better.
And non-chinese can sing mandarin songs too, let alone play it.

Suria has like weekly programs featuring Malay bands. Vasantham Central has Vasantham Idol.

You don't see anyone whining, "Damn, I can't join Vasantham Idol because I can't speak Tamil!"

if you wanted to sing in English, you would have joined Powerjam, Asiabeat, etc rather than Superband.

Obviously Superband is looking for a likely marketable band in a likely market (regional Chinese market).
