strings rust really fast

WD-40?? better than fastfret? i do wipe down every session. i apply fast fret firmly over the strings and i wipe over and under the strings

I don't know about fastfret. I believe in using the basics and that's good old WD-40 for me. Just spray on a cloth, run it lightly over the strings after each session. Works darn well for me for sure.

Most hardware/DIY shops should stock it.

while we are on this topic, pls allow me to tag along.

How you guys store your spare string? I bought 2 packs of Fender strings, store it somewhere inside my drawer for few weeks and when i want to use them, they are all rusty already 8O

don't buy 'em string until you really need them. get silica gel & place it together with the strings in a container if you have to keep them at home, over a period of time.

Never get fender strings! IMO they suck like crap especially the bullets or wadever marketing ploy they label it under...

The addarios have tt "environmental seal" tt works well enough, cos if u think abt it, the guitar shop has to have the strings in stock for some time before it even gets to u, so i dun see wads the prob with addarios..

absolutely nothing wrong with D'Addarios off the shelf, they however aren't lasting in use. but i still like them, using it on some of my guitars...

I like Ernie Ball Strings i use Hybrid Slinky. I find it very good for bending and such. sigh, however they wear out very easily. Which brands are more durable? do u guys like GHS?

Ernie ball strings suck ass, they can really rust i tell you... GHS bommers is the way to go man. They don't rust easily too, my personal choices are GHS and Rotosounds..

People is have different sweat types. I try many brands, for me is Ernie Ball bestest best. DDDDrio wears out fast for me but last longer for some friends. DR seems overall a popular choice. GHS seems to break easily for some people. But above all,

wow the bump.

for me ive gone a few different strings:

1) dadarrio XL $5.5
+ve : cheap, nice couloured ball ends
-ve : bad chemistry with mi

2) ernie ball super slinky $5.5
+ve : cheap
-ve :bad chemistry with mi

3) SIT power steel $5.5
+ve: cheap, really Stays-In-Tune really well with mi licensed floyd and whammy tricks even steve vai'd be scared of
-ve: bad chemistry with mi, stainless steel tone leaves much to be desired

4) kurt mangan nickel $5.5
+ve: cheap, playability is constant, good chemistry wid me
-ve: none so far

5) kurt mangan steel $5.5
+ve: cheap
-ve: bad chemistry, stainless steel tone

6) fender (clearing stock at luthermusic and g77 $3.5)
+ve: reall dirt cheap, treble strings stay shiny and smooth to play for months
-ve: i've bought 2 packs so far, where im tuning up, the ball end will get unwound and the string "snaps"

7) DR coated $18
+ve: really nice feel to play with, good chemistry(or none at all), hard to rust
-ve: for ppl like me who fret quite hard, the coating wears off at the frets really fast, and also it costs a bomb compared to other strings, at $18, its a luxury

well, thats how it is for me, currently using the kurt mangans

i've tried the acoustic 12-string set before, i hate the waxxy feeling, and it doesnt really do much to protect corrosion, a big waste of money

well, in my opinion, it all depends on whether the strings suit your comfort level. If they don't, then u have to change brands oftenly to see which suits.

u either need this
or just clean your strings always with a dry cloth after use :D
and if you jam often ...change your strings often :D

hahaha...i uses driclor for a good long time man...i still apply it every 2 weeks to make sure my palms r sweat free...but i still do wipe my strings after playin...to make sure my strings r clean and apply some DR stringlife on them..makes them last alittle longer

But but but... sweat helps cool the body down... wouldn't your fingers overheat and like, burst into flames in the middle of Black Star?

*post work humour*

Hmm.

I use GHS super steels, despite being incredibly bright, they have the stainless steel wrap for the bass strings. However, I wipe my strings down after I play and it seems to work pretty well. I recently used lemon oil to clean the strings / lubricate them. Seems pretty effective esp since Lemon oil removes dirt.

I would suggest maybe you have a hand-towel ready by your side so that when you stop playing you can wipe ur hand(s) and prevent extra sweat from going onto the strings or guitar.

I used D'addario's for a stretch but they just become dull after a few days. No point IMO.
