some questions for 7 string guitars...

get a 7 string. the extra one string is a low B. so u can play drop C songs without having to change tunings. provided u know how to transpose tabs

Actually, you still can't. A drop C has an open string in C, and the string after is still A. A 7 string by general tuning is BEADGBE. No open string C. Still cannot.

sure if u wanna drop D and standard. tune to DEADGBe

u want standard tuning? dont strum the 7th string.
u want drop D? mute the E string and strum the rest.

Mute the E and strum the rest? Is it possible to do that with 1 finger? I don't think it is, and even if it could be done, its not convenient . That would defeat the convenience of drop D...

standard is EADGBE right, then drop D is DADGBE, how to tune it in a way that I have both in one guitar?

You use the Hipshot Extender tuning machines. Drop D tuning in just a flick. Tune to standard E, then drop to D whenever you need. Voila! 2 in 1 tuning.

That's assuming you don't use a floyd rose system.

Some questions on 7string guitars.

I've searched google and wikipedia for info on 7string guitars and I still don't understand... can somebody here explain:
1) the uses of seven strings guitars
2) is it only meant for metal?
3) what's the string size the 7th string?

Thanks...

woah , I haven't really mastered my 6 string so I don't think i'll go to 7 anytime soon .

7 string guitar = lower ranges = heavier chords and shit like that
7 string = anything is possible with an instrument , you don't just play metal on a tele do you?
7 string = way out of your budget
7 string = well it's a low B on the top string so just get the packs that say erm whats that .... oh yeah 7 strings for 7 string guitars ? i don't know .. maybe?
7 string = sexy

haha agreed. i can barely play well on my 6 strings, and actually why do you need a 7 string? well if you can play those awesome petrucci stuff then i'll just shut my trap

This is what people who really don't understand a 7 string guitar at all usually say.

6 strings or 7 strings doesn't make a difference. It's not a progression thing. If you can play a 6 properly, then a 7 shouldn't be a problem either. But even experienced old guitarists have trouble shifting to a 7 just like that. It's about adjustment issues. Not skill or talent. That's all. It's about understand ing the 7.

I mean, if Shredcow can play a 7 string... How hard can it be?

I agree COMPLETELY.

This is in the same league as saying - a floyd rose guitar is too hard for me.

Its a matter of adjustment.

Deal with the floating bridge, adjust your palm mute positioning, adjust to all the bothersome string changes, etc etc

Same for the 7 string, just deal with that extra low B and life goes on.

Of course, some technical ability is expected - if you can't mute properly on a 6... then why bother yourself some more with an extra string?

you guy suck donkey ballz!!!

Just because you people can make it across beyond 6 strings, doesnt mean its easy for us, some who are slightly scared somehow, finger shorter somehow or too weak to put forward the first step of trying or even just cant think too much or count beyond 6 etc blah blah blah!

*switching off fake emo mood*

Personally for me, adapting to the extra one string is just one of the things about 7-stringers. I'm pretty much convinced by now that it's not that a big deal for this.

However, finding the right guitar first, then the right strings, pickups and and possibly replacement bridge will be a little harder than the more common 6-stringers. Basically, we're spoilt for choices when it comes to 6-stringers but there's less options for 7s.

But then again, the effort put into looking for the right ones would probably make the playing all the more sweeter? Just my guess :)
