Smoking

I used to be a smoker, did it since I was about 16, intensified when I went into army. I have been smoke free for about a year now. Yes completely smoke free, not just quit buying. LOL.

There's absolutely nothing positive which comes out of this disgusting habit.

Not only does it literally burn a hole in your pocket, think about all the gear you could buy just buy saving that cigarette money.

But simply put, you smoke, you die.

no it doesn't, unless you use your pocket as an ashtray

also no smoke still die

edit: also i'm not advocating smoking, it's a disgusting habit and you youngsters should know better!!

one in a while wont kill but you should know better and know your limits.

i dont see the addiction from smoking.its certainly something i can do without.

smoking is hard to quit once you're hooked. I started 15 years ago and have tried quitting at least 5 times. I had even been clean for 1 YEAR once. But everytime I relapsed, I realised I started smoking more than usual, so now I just hope that I can slowly slowly cut down and one day forget that I used to smoke.Fat Chance.

For the people here who are non-smokers, please do not even bother to experiment. You will definitely regret it. I dedicate the song by Chicago "hard habit to break" to you all.

Good for you Souljah!

If youngsters know better then why do they still pick up this habit?

If a person smoke 1 pack a day, that would be

$10 a day.
$3650 a year.
$36,500 in 10 years.

2 packs = double that.

One can certainly buy a lot of gear with that money....

but to all smokers, be aware tat if u carrying or smoking a "pirated" or "smuggle" ciggies, just be extra careful, last week just saw this guy got nabbed becoz of those ciggies....plain cloth officer....

i just hate to see those who keep saying they're poor, yet they have money for ciggies...
*middle finger up for ppl like tat*

even seen some beggers begged for money just to buy ciggies
*2 middle fingers up for those* 犯贱

Let's put it in more down-to-earth terms...

If I smoke 2 packs a day, and quit smoking today, and put that money each day I would spend on cigarettes into a piggy bank. In a year's time, I would be able to buy:

1. A new stage piano keyboard
2. A new pair of active monitor speakers
3. 12-16 channel mixer
4. A new pro audio interface
5. Some new VST plugins for my DAW

And perhaps more if I purchase them during a sale. Of course, I wouldn't have to wait till one year's up before I can buy them - I can get them as I save enough.

This is a keyboardist speaking here....would be different for guitarists. But the same idea...

Is this a good enough incentive?

Unless you have the mental capacity of a mongoloid you'd know that was a figure of speech.

For smokers, cigarettes are a necessity (obviously). Just like air, food and water. It's unfair to say about how much you'll save by quiting, because you sure won't scrimp on food when you're hungry and water when you're thristy. Same thing applies to cigarettes.

Quitting is very hard. There's this saying that goes, "Once a smoker, always a smoker". I can totally relate to that because I've tried quitting 7 times, and I always revert to the same habit again. The longest I went w/o cigarettes was 14 months. The last cigarette I had was on 6 May. This is the 8th time I'm trying to kick the habit. I hope it's my last attempt.

Hope I can share something I know with you smokers out there.

Ciggerettes are just plain bad, unlike alcohol the delivery of the
ciggerettes smoke goes directly to your lungs, and direct to the
bloodstream. No liver, kidney, gastric systems involved in cleaning
up the mess you've just ingested. Thats why you "feel" it so quickly.

The "mess" is the standard 20,000 toxins that you see in the ads.
But to explain a little on how the "mess" got there, I'll elaborate.
There's just two ways the "mess" got there, the plant drew it from
the ground and the tabacco company put it there.

The former is plain simple, fertilisers, growth enhancers, naturally
occuring heavy metals in the earth \m/ all of which extracted and
stored in the plant. Why would it be any different from the veggys
you eat? Cos you don't burn vegs and breath the smoke...

The tabbaco company ain't helping much either, well they try...
but mostly its to make the tabbaco leaves more "smokable" and
the nicotine delivery more efficient. Cos if you've smelt a gardener
burning dried leaves before, you know for a second that that kinda
smoke will make you cry. So they have to add "softeners" to make
it more smokable.

And in fact, the tabbaco companys doesnt really give a crap, the
throw in the stem and roots and grind it up and soak them in
expired cigerettes mixed with water and turn it into a pulp and
use it to make more tabbaco to sell. Those are called "recons"
short for reconstitutes.

I caught pnuemonia twice when I was a smoker.
The second time it happened I decided I had enuff.
cigs is just cigs, its not as if its like weed or something.
so with that kinda rheotoric, I decided that its no worth it.

and I quited.

Hey sleepykitty,

Its good you know you're trying to quit,
when I quit that time its also the same
thing, on/off/on/off like mad.

But I guess the important thing is not
about steering clear of ciggerettes with
a 500 mile radius of abstinence.

i think if you can shake off the dependence
then its a victory already.

Unless you have the mental capacity of a mongoloid you'd know that was a figure of speech.
forgive me then for misinterpreting your figure of speech, since you used 'literally' instead of 'practically burning a hole in your pocket'

also i r dum, what's mongoloid?
