I know legato is to play smoothly, but don't understand why it can't be done with economy picking.. must sweep ah?

Hey William, i'm uploading the vid again... hold your horses.

Ippier, yes, legato means to play smoothly, but in guitaring, legato basically means playing with minimal picking and maximum hammer-on/pull-offs, so in that sense, it achieves that "playing smoothly" meaning.

It was a pure jam along so I really didn't think of any theme or melody to go with it... Actually going to re-record this for fun.

on a not totally unrelated note, is it possible for great improvisors to come up with melodic themes/motifs off the cuff? Name some guys?
A lot of improv strikes me as aimless noodling, though I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much on the subject.

Well, a lot of compositions are doing thru improvisation. Sitting down and doing it again and again till something sticks.

But for really sweet improvisational playing... Saw the Ibanez 90th Anni video and Andy Timmons is great.

Its very hard to just conjure somethign beautiful on 1st take but well, it can be done. Vai;s For the Love of God was a one take according to him. Lots of fasting and stuff, then bam!

Yeap, its amazing how the state of mind affects the playing. Or simply put, how much your mood helps. (Or trashes your playing)

Anyway, I just finished a smalled composed version with the backing, in mp3... check it out guys... Late liao, gotta sleep so gave up on it. Haha.
