Man many singaporeans are just way too sensitive. making big issues over small things. First this year was the no pork thingy on youtube. THen the fhm controversy with the radio djs and stuff. Just take it as it is.
Its cool to see pics of women rockin out. Dosen't matter whether it looks sexy or not. But main thing itll help to encourage other girls to take up guitars drums etc. By making issues out of this nonsense, we're just discouraging other gals.
I was reading through this thread and suddenly got an idea! Perhaps I should put together an event that showcases female live music. Aside from Flying Pills back in the 90s and more recently female-fronted bands like Lunarin, Unexpected, West Grand Bouelvard (For a time headed by Daphne Khoo), My Writes, Dolltrash, we dont really have that much girl bands. I spied a picture of victoria earlier on haha.
I'm talking about a show on mid-size scale.
Do drop me an email at mark@gashaus.com if you have any ideas or if you are in a 'girl band' or just want to give me a random comments
Some awareness about female shows:
LADYFEST Singapore is a non-profit group that aims to provide the Singaporean Lady Scene of the past, present and future a place to call their own
there is a good goodhandful of female musicians in the local scene.
there arent many if you were to compare to the ratio of male musicians but
there isnt say a very small amount of girls either. its been increasing in the recent years. its definitely a good phenomenon.
i apologize before hand if i missed anymore bands out
or got my facts wrong. very sorry.
list of bands that has female musicians.
(bands fronted by females are in bold)
my cousin's the lead vocals for My Precious (a she btw)
as you can see, even they've gone somewhere (they had gigs overseas last year if im not wrong). so, music's just that. its MUSIC. it knows no boundaries and as far as i know, it trascends anything ive ever known.
culture, heritage, race, sex, nations, individuality. etc.
i think the threadstarter's managed to achieve what she set out to, so kudos.
