"I urge more female users to stand out to post pictures of themselves to show their passion for music."

i dont think pictures alone can demonstrate a passion for music. It can signify a presence in the scene yes, but it doesn't go beyond that.
I'm not trying to disparage your efforts here; in fact i think it's a good start, i just wished the females in our community would step it up in other ways besides posing pretty.

what a big rat

i dont care what you all say. if i were to use an analogy, i would buy FHM and MensHealth after the consideration of different factors. i'm not gonna be swayed by the picture of zinedine zidane's bald head on the cover of menshealth, but the quality of the half naked babe on the cover of FHM would affect my marginal propensity to spend greatly.

and what im really trying to say is, screw equality, i don't want to see photos of men, more babes please. because i actually BENEFIT from this inequality

well, personally i am pretty neutral about this. i mean, i'm a musician but i don't see the need to tell everyone "hey you! i'm a musician!". but i've got to admit that this thread is kinda... original, if i should say. it's one of a kind. i've never really seen such threads in any of the other forums that i'm on. hahah.

i'm not going to say anything on this but come on people, just let them do what they like. i mean, it doesn't hurt you NOT to click on the thread right? if you don't like it, then don't even go find out what's happening. that way, no one gets hurt.

just my $0.02. :?

This is a reeeaaally interesting thread.

First of all, kudos to AverRal for starting something like this. It is true that female musicians are pretty underrated here (and pretty much everywhere). This would at least being some attention over to them.

However, as a female musician myself I don't really think this is the way to do it. Even if the sad truth is that the music market of today largely caters to the package instead of the music itself, is it wise to choose to follow it? This is where the term 'sellout' comes in - where you cater yourself to the market.

Where 'advertising' comes in, it all boils down to who you want to portray yourself as. Another hot chick who apparently plays music, or a talented player/singer who just happens to be a hot chick? If one were to only put pictures of herself up as a form of self-promotion as a musician, she might get noticed, but it is more likely that people will buy her album because they're thinking 'hey, hot chick! hahaha should be at least decent lah. at least not good still got pictures'.

Why not put up demos instead? It is realllllly obvious that if you were to post in the Open Mic part of the forum with the indication of a female persona in the thread title, you'd definitely get more replies and more interest. Firstly it's because of gender, and we all know which gender makes up most of this forum. Then there's that curiosity - 'A female player/singer? That's something we don't see everyday here, should check it out.' If you're good, those who take a listen notice your music more than your looks. You have the advantage as a female in garnering starting interest from fellow musicians - interest in your music. Then they'd know that you're not just a girl trying to make music - can they even? - they'd know you have substance.

Putting pictures up will get you attention, that's undeniable - especially if you know you're good looking. But is it the kind that you would have in mind? 'Hey, she looks quite hot, should be nice to screw. Especially with that guitar/bass/mic with her. Hmmmmm.' Is this any different from selling sex?

It's pretty much a fact that you'd get more attention as a female. It's like some sort of push-up bra - you get the auto boost in the market without even having to do anything, as compared to guys. It's quite sad that gender plays such a huge role in this(sorry guys, we all know that's true), but you're lucky enough to be on the advantaged side. Use it right.

RazrAsh, I'm not insulting her in any way. I left her an option to prove it. And well, the thing is I haven't spoke to her before so how would you expect me to know. So now you're assuming I know her well enough. Well, now I shall tell you that I don't. I'm not picking on her. Even if it's other people, people whom I know or close to, I'll still react the same. If she can state her opinion and you can state yours, why can't I state mine? Everybody holds equal rights to freedom of speech. So now, stop picking on me will you? If that is your definition.

ahaha. i see this thread as a sign that females want equality and the same stage as guys. ok on one condition. all serve NS! thats wat i call equality.

and so yeah looks are just some cheap stunt to promote oneself. image should be the icing on the cake but never the cake. image should be a plus to the musicianship but never the main factor. thats where u get those stupid bands who launch one album and fade into oblivion.

i dont think bands like megadeth were really pretty. but fans stick to them due to their commitment to the fans to write music which is worth listening to.

NS rocks!

When you're not serving it.

But I heard Civil Defence get paid more than Army boys. That's not fair.

I wanna go Army!

i thought i posted this but i don't seem to see it-

why should female musicians be judged differently from male musicans? do you consider yourselves inferior?

are female musicians literally underrated, or are too many females (not all) getting into the scene thinking "i'm a girl, so I don't have to play well"?

I have utmost respect for female musicians who can sell their music without having to rely on the image of their gender.

Sex sells, period, but what's the point? Do you feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that guys are just getting off to your photos without caring about who you are or what you stand for?

PS: don't bring NS into this. women serve the nation more than you do- they gave birth to each and every one of us.

Sigh, YY seriously stop being so critical. Now i understand why your interest consist of 'hating'

sigh. Someone here is looking for trouble everywhere. Look! This forum is not for you to look for trouble. Cause we dont care.

Haha. I'm not looking for trouble. I just simple stated my opinion and with the help of you guys, dragged it until what it is now. And if you don't care, you won't bother replying :D
