yea. its childish. cause firstly not everyone agrees with the govt and we don't really have a say in the laws they make because of the inexistance of freedom of speech and espression.

it WILL affect on how australians think of the sporeans. and i will also affect me in a way that i'm gonna migrate to australia in the future.
Say hello to khai_egotype kids!

Anyway, just as Singapore has its own right to respect its own laws, the site admin also reserves the right to do whatever he wants with it. If this is his little stand against capital punishment by hanging, so be it.

say hello to wang-namecaller-dexian.
*sigh. this guy...

sadly the guy is australian. it will affect thinking of aussies. just as when you go there. i'm sure with ur big mouth, they'd give u a tight slap. thats good.

I'll put it in a nicer term than what dexian said.

You're concerned about this case ONLY because you intend to migrate to Australia and this would make you, a native Singaporean, be seen in a bad light. Wow, what a great reason to oppose the death sentence.

Grow up, the world is not just about you and your petty concerns, migration, light guitars or otherwise.

well let australia boycott us for all i care, we're not the country thats completely out of the way...anw its seriously damn childish,

it wont affect only me. all sporeans. i'm not the only one migrating there u know

btw, i'm not opposing the death sentence. i'm opposing the s'pore's govt. i'm opposing the decision of not letting the family hug. it may sound childish.but a hug wouldnt kill anyone. he's gonna be hanged anyway, only that, his mum would feel badly hurt for not being given the chance to hug her
son.

Ultimately, its up to individuals, whom u support whom u criticise. for eg. i like light guitars, so what? see. some people...

ya, "ALL SINGAPOREANS" will be migrating to Australia

use your brain before you post please, it's a waste of bandwidth.

They can slap me for all I care, but that's not going to happen because I know that being a foreigner, I wouldn't have any say, so I won't even bother.
I am born and bred in Singapore, and I will live and die in Singapore, even if I do not agree with the Government and its' laws. I dare say that, I can still raise my head high, and be proud that my country was able to stand up for its own beliefs and laws, rather than a certain someone who is concerned of HIS OWN country dragging him down.

Oh yes btw about that hug issue, please go read up the actual legislation and what they allowed him. By law, he cannot come into contact with his family members once sentenced to death, but Singapore still allowed him to hold his mother's hand. That in itself is already an exception made specially for his circumstances, granted it was minor and probably didn't change anything, but if you recall the long debate on the other thread, it was posted that this is also a matter of national face, if Singapore was to make too great an exception, it would be seen as weak/susceptible to Western influence/sycophantic and would have made a mockery of the legislative system, make no exception and Singapore would be labelled a country without human rights, so the choice to make a small exception in his case, to allow him to come into contact with his mother, was a reasonable and smart choice IMO.

In that case, if you see Singapore as dragging you down, I don't think Singaporeans want you to be in this country either. I'm not a fan of the government, but being born here gives you a sense of belonging, which you obviously don't have, if I were to say it in harsh terms, you're just a traitor turning your back on your own country.

Yeah, ok it's your POV, we'd be more than happy if you keep it to yourself, hide in a corner and cry "Mama Down Under!".

some australians are still redneck bigots.

shoulda seen the comment on one of their national papers by one disgruntled citizen:

"if air was manufactured in Singapore, i'd rather not breathe!"

Basket... childish here, childish there... enough of this shit man, the guy is dead, so stop talking about it already and start more talk on music..

i think they should blame the drug runners for being stupid and selfish. blame the drug barons for selling drugs. do their own housekeeping, catch their own runners before the runners get to our country.

and hanging is done with the knot below the chin. yes, it could take over 6 minutes if the person was strangling to death, but since the noose knot is right below the chin, the knot snaps the head back. so death is almost painless and instantaneous.
