i dont know why there's so many negative comments about gc. in fact, i've got rather good service from the uncle/owner referred to in this thread. i just walked in on some day a few weeks back, in tshirt and jeans to ask about the cost and all the stuff needed to build a strat from scratch. i had a good talk with him and also asked about other guitars around the shop. he was nice enough to explain and check the prices for me. and i left without buying anything. so how would you justify my encounter with them?

You were probably wearing some branded t-shirt and jeans. LOL.

i dun tink theres anything wrong about telling what happened to u on the forum. It is almost the same as telling your friend, hey this shop dam rude to me, dun buy from them. But eventually it is still up to them to decide if they shud buy from the shop.

But anyway, what kelvin hates is " Waste-timers", who simply go around asking about the details all over, but in the end, just say "OK" and walk out. A few times when i was walking around the shop, some customers were really incredibly unbelievable.

" Hi, do you sell guitar gloves?"

Points to vintage fender " This is one not real lahhhhh"

Anyway, face it. When you people complain about Kelvin "ignoring" or "chasing" you involving money, how often is it true that you seriously don't have any?

the music kopitiam is not meant for people to complain. Never was the intention of the folk who set up the forum here for.

It was only till some people who didnt get satisfactory services from the shops locally, didnt bring it up to the shop face to face and only thing they knew, is to come here and complain. And in the end, nothing much has changed, till the next new guy come around, repeat the same thing all over.

Anyway, threads of similar content all along round the forums here, if you search to read on it, usually its being locked by moderator and with the remark of bring the matters to the managment of the shop instead of voicing out here. Cos most of the time, if really concern about the services and wanna see improvement, the best is still to go back to the shop and talk to them

But sadly, most of the time, we will only voiced out here, due to the unsatisfactory services we gotten, but not really so much hoping they improved their services. Of course, everything can be painted nicely as, "wanna warned others'.

imho

To be xompletely honest, i disagree with whatever u have said. I mean yes we can bring it up to management. but the management can choose and even afford to lose one customer. Compare this to "sharing" this on a public eforum, where not just one customer gets a bad impression, but many other ppl, and this might spur/prevent shops from giving bad service. Hence i feel voicing grievances on forums are better than bringing it up to management.

Btw, i'm not addressing this particular shop or anything, just voicing my views.

They may have one of these in the shop maybe?

Most business are like that, people come in ask questions (sometimes even ridiculous ones as mentioned above. If u can't stand it and give bad service fine. but really, u can't complain if it left a bad impression on someone and that person voices it on a public forum.

jhust my 2 cents once again and i'm directing this the aforementioned or any other shops.

Real help-line transcripts:
Caller: Hello, operator? My computer can't turn on.
Operator: Is your power on?
Caller: Yes.
Operator: Is your power cable plugged in?
Caller: Oh. Oops.

So the next time your computer has problems, it's completely justified for the operator to tell you to suck it without hearing you out?

Face it. It's his bloody duty and job to treat us courteously and politely or at the very least not treat us like shit.

lol never gotten bad service at GC before. But I think thats cos I used to be a regular and my dad also bought stuff from there.

However i also havent stepped in there for quite awhile...cos there's nothing in there that interests me :)

+1 to Revelt.

People working in sales are being paid and trained full-time to serve customers, they are professionals on the job and as professionals, they should act professional as well. Treating random customers like shit because of a few bad eggs is not professional at all. You treat more customers like shit based on your own assumptions without hearing them out, you're only going to be detrimental to your business because word will spread, more and more will steer clear of your shop, and there your business goes down the tubes. I've worked in customer relations, met some shitty customers (actually only one) but I still have to be professional about it.

Shops should leave a lasting impression whether or not you have money to purchase the item. If I don't have the funds to purchase what I want now, I will have it later on. And when I do have the funds to purchase something, if the shop left a good impression, then all the more I'd go back to the store.

It was the same for TYMC, the guy on the phone wasn't rude or anything when I asked him questions about the pedal case. That's a plus. And it doesn't mean that anyone who calls usually don't buy and call for fun. When I went to TYMC in person to buy my pedal case, the guy was very patient with me asking my questions. That left an impression because then I know if I ever need to buy something, I can go back to ask TYMC because they don't chase you out of the shop or guilt you into purchasing something.

The main thing about being in sales is that you must not expect everyone who walks in the store to walk out with a purchase. The focus is to leave an impression so that they'd come back next time. Even if they don't, they'd be able to say "Hey, this shop got good service, if you need to buy something then maybe you can drop by there. The guy is quite friendly".

IMHO, I think the TS is entitled to complain in the music kopitiam.
Some pple like to say it's best to "take it to the shop" directly...but is this really a realistic request?
From his post, I assume tt the TS is a teenager, just starting out on music.
If he goes back to the shop and says "hey, i think the way u treated me yesterday wasn't appropriate..."
What MIGHT happen?
The shopowner in question might get even more aggravated. He's much older than the complainant. And who knows what "connections" he's got.
Why would a teenager go back to confront the agressor, and risk even more abuse or maybe even violence?? Any sensible person wouldn't.

So this forum IMO is the best platform to air their views, without putting himself into harm's way.

That's also why the Forum section in Straits Times allows complaints.

*i am referring to all complaint scenarios, not just this aforementioned one*

You know, sometimes it may really be a simple case of appearances.

Maybe you look like the guy who got his daughter pregnant and then disappeared.

Maybe you look like his neighbour's son who are always making passes and looking leeringly at his wife/daughter/maid at the letterbox area.

Can be anything.

Sometimes you just look at a person and his face or his whole get-up turns you off or disgusts you, but you can't even place the reason why it is so.

That's why I try to refrain from too much shopping nowadays.

Sales people are always so good to me that I always feel obliged to buy although I was just really browsing around.

The problem with such thread is that we do not know the actual situation and it is to the shop's disadvantage when their reputation tarnished.

If the TS can email me his Name, NRIC and contact, I will open this thread again.
