Pls Recommend a Bridge Humbucker For Ibanez S

Hi fellow softies, i need some help, just purchased my 1st Ibanez S guitar with the ZR trem bridge. Never had a floating bridge equipped guitar before so i am pretty noob in this aspect.

I have been a long time user of seymour duncan JB, brought a spare to be swapped into the S without realizing that the floating bridge needs pickups with a further spacing between the poles  So i went over to davis and couldn't get hold of a trembucker JB, now i am stuck and was wondering whether i can get an alternative, if anyone has any suggestions or wanna trade/buy my JB u can also get me through pm or sms at 92310941, cheers and thanx for all ur kind attention!

Yeah the f-spaced r meant for trem equipped guitars but i am stumped at the selections lol......i was considering the D-Sonic cause it sounds real heavy and warm......but perhaps lacking some high end definition......or the seymour duncan alternative 8 since it is pretty much a JB on steroids.

Any views on them? And is the D-Sonic designed for trems?

Hey bro! Oh yeah i forgot abt darrell lol, he use to play S series rite lol?? Haha well i have been playing pretty much blues, classic/heavy rock and some classic metal.

Really noob in this area cause i have been pretty much a fender/gibson man for many years.....bought the S to experiment a different kind of style cause i have always dig steve vai, satch, tremonti, and petrucci keke.

Oh the alternative 8 is only suitable for big amps?? Hmmmm bummer. Well like i said i have always loved the JB, so i wouldn't wanna stray too far away, perhaps something warmer will be welcoming as well. Heard some gd stuff for the dimarzio Tone Zone as well.......

A Tone Zone will be fine. Very in your face and pretty big sounding stuff.

A Breed will be smoother, less aggressive - great for leads stuff. More liquid.

I've had some... 10 - 12 dimarzios in my Saber last time. I can help a little with descriptions and advice but you gotta be more clear/specific about what kind of sound you prefer.

And most pups are available f-spaced.

bro, put in your standard spacing to test if u like the tone of jb+ibanez first... if u think they sound fine to you, then move on to look for the trembucker ver of jb...

anyway, they will sound the same one, std spacing or trembucker... u go ask all the tonekings or read more reviews on trembuckers... reason is that magnetic poles are big enough

for me i'll still buy trembucker in the end if im in ur shoes...hehe
y? cos cosmetic purpose, somehow seeing the poles aligned to strings just gives us the extra assurance tat this is a better match...haha...

but anyhow, for testing purpose, put on that humbucker first...

not all good pickups sound good wif all guitars, and vice versa...

im a jb fan too, but only on lespaul guitars, it didn't sound as good on some i tried...

other factors need to be re-adjusted too (i mean for the same pickup on a different type of guitar), like height of pickup, vol & tone pot, amp settings, speakers etc

cheers

Hi thanx shredcow and the rest that have given me ur input, actually i did consult goose abt the difference it would make with and without F spacing and he advised me to get the F-spacing PU due to the balance in tone. I read that most pple cant tell the diff......and claim that it is mostly aesthetic, so i am not too sure abt that.....

I was planning to install the JB cause it sounded real gd in my LP and SG, and i thought since the S body is mahogany, it shld sound gd as well......

Hmmm i play and listen pretty much anything mostly blues/rock/prog rock/brit rock, and i am primarily not a very metal dude, classic metal aka early days metallica is pretty much the furthest i will go.

I just managed to get my hands on the air norton with f-space so the config will be seymour duncan 59 in the neck, stock inf single coil in the mid and air norton in the bridge, any comments on that people?

I own a mahagony superstrat, somewhat like yours and had a JB in the bridge.

Swapped it to Tesla.

Love it 8)

Hi bro, what tesla pu model did u use?

Btw guys i think i am pretty set with having the air norton in the bridge, with the stock inf single and SD 59 in the neck.

Any comments? ;)

You have your guitar with you? You got pickup rings on it?

Right now, your pup poles line up with the strings correct?

Take a thick pick or a dollar coin, squeeze into the side so the pickup gets off alignment.

Do you hear a difference?

Play clean and loud, and alternate.

I think you will hear something.

The guitar is not with me now, it does come with pu rings, and i measure the pole pieces on the stock inf bridge has slight further spacing than my JB, so the poles r not sitting directly under the strings.

The air norton very warm.......sounds gd to me when i heard the sample clips and it is really warm and fat although a tad low in the treble side, but is it any bad at all?

Aiyoh... no need so leh cheh lah... Just pick a note using downstroke on clean. Then pick using upstroke on clean. BIG difference.

Then again, strat players have been facing this difference for ages with the neck pups also lah... No complaints right?
