Pickups: Tesla VS GFS

Anyone tried any of the GFS single coil? I used to have a pair of humbuckers but didn't really cut through when play in a band...

How does GFS single coil compares with Tesla single coil?

any comments? Thinking of getting either one. Thanks!

TESLA's Plasma single coils are recommended for those of us in search of a less protruding (but still significant) twang with loads of warmth- think overwound pickups with less nasal quality...

No experience with tesla but I have a set of vintage 70's grey bottom non stagger set. The thing was off spec by 5% in resistance all 3 positions. They cloth wires they claim to use are not really cloth wires which you can push back but more like cloth which covers another layer of I don't know what material.

Luckily for me, the guitar itself sounded great acoustically and also with the GFS set installed. Bright with a tight bass, lots of chime and overtones. How they might compare with fralins I don't know but they are good enough for me to not look for something else.

My opinion is that:

Great guitar + average pickup = very good tone

Average guitar + great pickup = average tone.

Psychologically, because of its low price, people will always wonder if its really as good as people claim it to be. But at SGD110 for the GFS set, how wrong could you get?

orh ok... so GFS consider to be low end boutique?!

btw, Victorinox, what guitar u use?? I'm thinking of giving those GFS single coil a try even though the humbuckers failed me... 8)

why not spend a little more and enjoy better 'voiced' pups ??

Want the best >> change the bloody mindset ..... cheap is never good ??

Great guitar + average pickup = very good tone

Average guitar + great pickup = average tone.

GFS is by no means boutique....
It is cheap, well made and it sounds decent. thats about it.

GFS
TONE XXX
VALUE FOR MONEY XXXXXX

BOUTIQUE
TONE XXXXX
VALUE FOR MONEY XX

so if you prefer good tone. shell out top dollar for handwound pups...
if you are ok with "decent sound" save a few hundred bucks and just get GFS, Tesla or any other "good and cheap" offerings .

GFS make or more like "IMPORT/EXPORT" GOOD sounding pickups for the price paid lah.

Relatively inexpensive and surprisingly quiet too.

Wanna get boutique NOISEFREE pickups are regular prices?

value for money should relate to the pickup's overall performance in addition to the price consideration. a boutique unit shouldn't IMO start off with a low value-for-money consideration, until the entirety is considered.

Ever played a pup that just had you... playing on your guitar for hours?

I mean, you've been looking looking searching searching... changing pups forever.. and you just wish that the search will end.

And you find that pup.

And you play and play and just... bask & dwell in the new found dynamics, sound and vibes you get from your rejuvenated guitar.

Oh heck the $ then!

Ya hear?

Oh, I use www.has-sound.com handwound pups.

that was the feeling i had when i installed my first Bill Lawrence.

the stunning clarity felt like i had earwax major clog up before.
