Hey guys! Haha! Juz realized that there are not much threads bout favourite picks and stuff, mostly its all bout either guitars or effects and stuff,so yeah, juz wanted to start off this topic... Juz wondering, what picks do you guys use?? i'll start off,im using Jim Dunlops Nylon hard(red) and extra hard picks(yellow).. Their excellent for leads/soloing and stuff as well as strumming too ,though I dont strum as hardcore though cos it'll wear off fast... My 2nd fav is e Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm(purple) which is GREAT for heavy strumming and stuff, but I dont use it for leads... =)

heh, lets try again!

Most of the time, when theres thread on pick, in the end, it ended up with everyone jumping in to talk about the different brand they using and the focus seem to be on the product more than how the pick affect the player. Of course there be time when coupa fellas talking bout the tone, before getting drowned out by the brand. So i say, we try here on not only stating down the brand you use, but also on how it affect the geetar player in you.

For example,

i use this brand and this brand. With brand A, it affect me in the way that i hold my pick and by adjusting the amount of surface touching the strings, it has a different response from the sound that is amplifed. Not only that, it reduce the "clickity" sound which i got when using other pick, blah blah blah etc.

With brand B, due to the shape of the tip, pinch harmonic is a breeze and doing all sorts of acrobatic run all over the fretboard is easy as digging the nose, etc blah blah blah.

As a good ending, if possible, record various clip to showcase the differences in response and the improvement in tone etc, between normal pick and favoured pick etc, blah, blah.

oh, and if the above seem like too troublesome over a pick. Then just stick to geetar playing and do something more practical or search for other threads about geetar picks, in the forum here.

g'day matesss

haha lets just tell the guy what he wants to know!

i alternate between 3.0mm jazz stubbies and Jazz III reds. both small ones. dont quite like the XL and Big stubbie versions of the picks because they feel very 'clumsy' in my hands.

jazz stubbies for when i want a less trebly sound and jazz threes for everytime else. yup.

mwahaha, thats true. THats why i suggested in order to have a thread on pick thats more useful than the rest, may can try doing what i suggested above.

If not, since the thing we can talk bout pick already limited, if we just do it like the coupa threads on pick in the forum here or other guitar forums,, we be back to square one. And before the thread disappeared, come another same thread of the same pattern. Like that how? Wait my bro thor 666 bro gonna be thor 66666 instead. Two more than the beast

What the raindrop said. It's kinda dumb to hear people say XXX is the best without any meaningful rationale, or to keep creating the same threads and posting the same irrelevant information which obviously have no value without context.

Choice of picks is personal and need to:-
(1) Use your own ears to listen to the tone.
(2) Feel the comfort of prolonged grip and playing with your own hands.

Now I am using:-
Pickboy (Carbon Nylon) 0.75mm for electric guitar
Jim Dunlop (Nylon) 0.60mm for acoustic guitar

My choice of pick changes with items in the entire sound chain, esp the cables. If I am to change the type of cables and brand/gauge of guitar strings for example, I would need to test out and choose a pick again.

Which is why I have many, many types of picks in my guitar toolbox now - due to the years of being picky about picks.

AWEsome. I WANT MY AWE-IN-ONE TOO! where can i get them?

Yes!!! Awe-in-Ones are cool! I used to prefer the totally transparent white profound pick for electric guitar. And the orange folk debut pick for acoustic.

My only complaint is that the transparent profound pick wore out faster than the carbon nylon ones I am using. (I wear out and throw away about 1 carbon nylon pick every 2 weeks. AIO Profound pick was about one every week)

The orange folk debut lost out to the Jim Dunlop nylon 0.60 mm just by a very teeny weeny bit, after I changed my guitar cable from George L's to Evidence Audio Lyric HG. If I didn't change the cables, I would still be using the orange AIO.

Dunlop 1.14

hur hur hur hur hur hur

Yeap, totally.

The following shops sell them individually and in packs of 3:-
- Guitar 77 (individual picks)
- Davis Guitar (individual picks)
- Swee Lee (packs of 3)
- City Music (packs of 3)

However, the popular ones (esp the transparent white profound picks) seem to be out of stock forever.

The 1.14's I mentioned were the dunlop tortex's,e texture is slightly fine than other picks, and dosent wear off as much... Dunlop has so many types of picks... =D

Yeah,e awe in ones are not bad,I own one too... Erm,it provides 3 diff sides wif 3 diff thicknesses and a special gripping material in e middle, the awe in one dosent slip out of your thumbs(esp if you have sweaty palms) ... Bought mine for a dollar at ebenex...
