Pedals: Challenge Yourself!

After seeing Eric Johnson's pedalboard, and he only had 4 pedals (Fuzz Face, Tube Driver, Crybaby, Tube Tape Echo), man I felt pretty humbled that I had twice the amount of pedals on my board..

The TC Electronic is not always there.. Of course, he uses rack units as well..

But, here's the challenge, if you could have only 4 pedals, say stick it to this board (the pedaltrain mini):

What are the 4 pedals you'd bring to define YOUR tone? I did this last week, and took 4 pedals and was quite satisfied.. They were:
Boss SD-1 MIJ
Pro Co RAT (big box reissue, LM308 opamp)
Boss DS-1 MIJ Silver screw
DOD DFX-91 Digital Delay/Sampler

I did miss some of my other pedals here and then, but these 4 were quite enough to get through an entire jam session..

Now pick your own 4 pedals!

niceee... talk abt efficiency.

i'll bring my crybaby 535, barber LTD, keeley ds-1 and.. thats abt it! the forth could be my power supply????

and godspeed try resizing the pedaltrain mini pic please?

my current board houses only 6 pedals basically because it can fit only 6. Of which, 2 obviously can be omitted if need be.

So, what I REALLY need are:

Keeley BOSS DS-1
Keeley BOSS SD-1
BOSS CE-2
Digitech Digidelay (or any other delay would be fine. DD-3 is good enough)

But honestly, with the right amp (like a Laney VC30?), I only need one pedal: Keeley BOSS DS-1

For my tonal needs....

Fulltone OCD
Toneczar Openhaus
Arion SCH-1 Chorus
Boss DD-20

I currently only use the first two pedals, into the TC G-System. No longer the stompbox junkie I once was :D

Hmmm.... Toneczar OpenHaus. Some delay pedal... maybe that skreddy echo, but I'd just bring my DMM. And the Boosty for leads. I'm done.

Oh, add a tuner...

laptop, audio interface, midi controller if having a choice

everything and anything that can be tweaked, within. Why limit

pedals wise

1) Goose pan blend
2) magicstomp
3) dl4
4) Rc 2 with mini radio receiver to broacast live radio feed

above 4 shud be enough to create a entire improv jam with many sounds on sound and the occasional news from the radio station when needed.

i think i will need a tc G-system , a gcb-96 wah n keeley mt-2 ..tts all ... but..... g-system is almost impossible for me to get ... too EXP!

surprisingly im also having the minimalist approach recently.

My recent jam session consisted of only these few pedals.

Guitar - Budda Wah - Blues Pro OD- FoxRox Zim - Visual Sound H20- Amp.

The sound was superb, it was like rediscovering my tone again. I suddenly fell in love with the chorus of my H20 again (I've retired it for 2 years)and the simple delays/echo that was more than adequate. I stopped tap dancing and concentrated on my playing and it was refreshing.

But of course I had to spoil it all by buying a Roland GR20 (for Piano, Sax, Organ sounds) few days back, which will be used together with all these same pedals during my next jam session this week.

For me, it depends on the music and bands that I'll be playing with.

I normally do reliefs for my friends and they are mostly in the top 40's. I'd just bring my Distortion, Chorus, Delay and volume pedal or sometimes just my multi-effect. But if playing for a rock band I'll bring Distortion, Super shifter, Delay, volume pedal, wah pedal, flanger. Wah...over limit liao. But sometimes, when I'm really lazy I just bring my Death Metal pedal and that's all.

shinodax: that's cheating :S

The width of the PT mini doesn't look like it could accommodate a wah though :S But assuming it could, I'd run a RMC5 into my trusty Fish Factory into a Choralflange into a Maxon AD999.

Well actually it'd depend on what amp I'm running into. If I was running this into a Jazz Chorus of some sort, I'd need a distortion pedal too. I usually depend on my amp's distortion for my sound. :)

heh, bro snuff! The gr20 will be a great add on, it wont spoil the occassion! Throw in any un geetar sound while theres no keyboard player always a fun thing to do during jamming or shows

For the longest time, I gigged with the simple set-up of:

Guitar > TS9DX > Jekyll & Hyde > H2O

More than enough to cover all the basics, but this was because my other guitarist had many delays running to fill up the sonic landscape. If I were the only guitarist, I would add in a Marshall Echohead after the H2O.

Of course, the board has grown since then lol.

jskadiang > hahah... yeah... multi effects... but it's a really good stuff man... alright i will list wat i need.. wah > drive > boost > delay and done...

Lovepedal Eternity>Crunchbox/Plextortion/7th heaven>Nova Modulator/Eventide ModFactor>Nova Delay/Eventide TimeFactor

is that considered as cheating??! :D

I win. Guitar into Amp. the bliss of cranked tube overdrive.

that's what i usually use during jamming at my house. that's the plus for building your own jamming studio. you can use your own amp that you love so much. yeah my band's practice space was in my house before we break for exam. tomorrow LAST PAPER!

i'm planning to get a clean amp so i can aby the amps with little or no need for overdrive pedals. so i can keep my laney lc15r at high gain always (what it's best at)

but i sometimes use 2 overdrive pedals when i jam with my band for fast switching between clean and od (because my amp is single channel, i can't crank it to tube saturation cause i need cleans), or when i jam with other amps. they are the maxon od808 (booster for the amp overdrive when i need high gain) and fulltone ocd (light overdrive source, also for boosting amp od when i need lower gain).

i am planning to get 2 more pedals after exam. a chorus and an analog delay. i'm eyeing the small clone and mxr carbon copy. then i can throw them into the effects loop of the clean amp, and throw my 2 od pedals in front of the laney. how expensive GAS is!
