Pay to play...or not?

But we do not force the artistes to buy the remaining unsold ones. They are free to return whatever is left with little or no obligations.

If the artistes has shown reasonable amount of effort to sell as best as they can, Trippy Factory will understand and still honor the $100 payment to them.

Hey TF,

How do you define "reasonable amount of effort?" Just wondering - if a band can only sell one and only one - cos really nobody wants to buy despite their efforts, is this considered "reasonable amount of effort?"

Curious.

Best is musicians do what they r suppose to do,practise n perform.
Organizers do what they r suppose to do,organize.
and Salesmen sell what they r suppose to sell.

Whats the big problem?

even cari makan bands must be salesmen nowdays - clubs want us not only to entertain but bring our supporters to buy drinks also .. wtf this industry coming to man ... :-(

It seems that we have to use action instead of words to win this argument.
I think there was never an argument in the first place. You opened up a thread to see how you can improve further. People state what they think and you can't accept it. I find it funny. Instead you start poking people who does it for free. Just like if you put out a survey and people say what they think truthfully and you got unhappy. That's not a trade of a business person since you've had 10 years of experience in the field. Oh..I forgot...once a year. That means 10 times of experience is way too different thing about having 10 years of experience. Just like as if you've played in a gig for ten times that's spread in a period of 10 years doesn't make you a professional player. But still you've made some people famous selling $5 CD's. Such a pity with that price, the CDs can collect dust.

Just wait and see: Trippy Factory will work hard on Black Revelations 2011 and show the nay-sayers what we're made of.

eh can get free tickets for this gig ? .. I volunteer do foc concert review for soft ... have siamed too many requests from James time I start out here ...

imo, if an organiser is clean, they should be transparent with the money they handle. if one is not organising gigs for the profits, then show the bands, your clients, the accounts! let them have an idea of what's going on, how much they're making, how much the organiser is earning, what were the costs, where did the $ from sponsors go. don't be dodgy with a simple statement assuring bands that "i'm not organising this for the money, it's for your exposure". I'm a typical pragmatic local and i certainly don't buy words, I wanna see figures.
So sad, I've to quote myself since my long post of nonsense was conveniently ignored.. !@#$ waste my time typing.. lol

Nobody does that, but if there is something to prove, facts and figures must be pulled out of a case study. For a high profile and successful gig, the profit should be fairly high, because my stupid self organised chapalang gig with 8 relatively unknown bands managed to get a reasonable amount of profits.

Me and the other organisers ensured that happened because we worked within our own limits. We did all the research and found out and went ahead with the most utility : cost ratio, to ensure turnover was high. The quality of the gig was not compromised for the price of the ticket. If we decided to do something stupid and way beyond out limits e.g. booking a stage at esplanade, getting mesa dual rec full stacks, or something, I think even if we ebay'ed our brains for free, nobody will buy it.

Hi guys, going to close this thread as requested by ts.

Let's continue doing what we believe in. Cos we all have different strategy and core capabilities. The market is big enough for everyone even though Singapore is very small. ;)
