hey guys i've been thinking of modding my guitar with orange drop caps.is there other brands of capacitors around? or is orange caps considered the best? i usually play lots of metal and some blues rock on ocassions, will fitting my guitar with a better capacitor do any good? Cause my guitar gets muddy when you play cords on the lower strings with distortion. And one last question where i can get the orange drop mod done?(preferbly cheap and good cause i got a budget haha..) Thanks alot!!!!!! :-D:-D:-D

Capacitors to ground via your tone pot rolls treble off. How is it going to enhance your brightness ?

You guitar needs a proper set up and maybe a string change to start with.... :)

How does a capacitor... wait... Goose got it.

I don't think you need a new capacitor. Perhaps you'd like to read up about what the tone control and capacitor does?

Btw, cheap and good don't always co-exist. There are different grades of orange drop caps... and OD caps aren't necessarily the best capacitors. There are others, like mallory, ceremic discs, and so on.

adding to what the pros have said. i got my OD caps done recently at Beez.
it improved the tone slightly. but first you gotta have a nice tone. so changing of caps won't give you such a drastic tone where you'll have a sound like its from another guitar.
it just makes the tone smoother. some like it, some don't. its all personal taste.

it differs. different caps have diff pricing. OD comes in 3 values. ranging from 18 to 22 to 25 i think. thats wad beez told me.

Cap-age is but a small part of tone.

Its impact varies and depends HEAVILY on the style of music you play.

First thing - do you actually use the tone control? If you do and you're not satisfied with how the treble roll-off happens... go ahead and explore the changes.

Metal dudes? Do you even use the tone control? And with that much gain going on, most of the nuances of the tone control are lost anyway.

Blues players... do you use the tone control? Especially if you're using humbuckers.

And really. Orange Drops are not the end all... I actually don't enjoy them as much as other stuff.

considering they're $2 online, it seems rather over priced right?
how bout the shipping charges? the serving to install the caps? the setup after that? i think its rather reasonable.

orange drops? waste time only....

Its another fad... like those fashion accesories...

Like Nike armbands.
Like 4558 is to the TS9.
Like mojo NOS transistor for that mojo NOS tone of the yesteryears.

That said, Sprague Orange caps are pretty high quality caps. Want more mojo? get those with copper leads. ahhh....

More mojo? Get Audience Auricaps. http://www.audience-av.com/capacitors/a_description.php
Be a trendsetter! Use Audience Auricaps on your guitar!!!!
Bell like tones!! Crystal highs! Cavernous lows!!!
Its the best thing since sliced BREAD!!!
OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!!!1

but of course!!!!

Upgrade to Bill Lawrence ultra crystal clear single coils!
Upgrade to Stainless Steel strings for the ZINGGG!!!
Upgrade Stainless Steel frets for even more ZINGGG!!!
Use ebony fretboard and swamp ash body!!!!

Finally... must use curly cords for WARMTH cos other mojo cables makes it too harsh! hur hur hur...

Regardless, if you like those caps please do get em but please do not be mislead! Money spent-problem persists.... :???:

Best get a tech to evaluate your gear first then add the cap and other mods you fancy.
I had guitar come alive just after a proper set-up. ;)

The "snake oil" syndrome is an expansive one....

That's not a cap problem. Sounds more like a pickup problem, OR (and most likely) a gain issue (too much?)

true true thats when my second plan comes in.I plan to fit my guitar with a dimarzio super 3 DP152 in the bridge and a EMG 60 in the neck will that do?? HMM..overdrive caps and orange caps confusing what the difference?? But if i were to buy the Audience Auricaps where can i get it done because that link is more for like audio speakers than for guitar.

ya thats when my second plan comes in.I was thinking of putting a dimarzio super 3 DP152 in my bridge and a EMG 60 into my neck to improve my sound.Plus a rewiring and shop caps(of which i dont know which one to choose).the link for Audience Auricaps seem to be for like audio speakers and not guitars so if i buy it where can i get the mod done?? oh ya one more thing will the dimarzio and EMG go??

for the cap part, its not important for now which cap to use, choose or buy. Whats important, is to understand how does the cap on the tone pot works (of which, goosonique's reply actually pinpoint the actual fact between capacitor and your instrument)

if one doesnt understand how the capacitor works in a geetar, then what we are hearing, is not the actual effect of different type of capactor, but the effect of "if i pay more, must be good right"...
