National Stadium- why is it still standing?

i'm not one to incite abhorrence against this national landmark but after much fanfare of its closing down & making way for a new stadium/ sports hub, after couples took time-off to bring their kids for a last kick-about in the field, after a much documented goodbye in the media, the Old Lady (as it is known locally), is still standing...

do you think enough is enough?

The delay to whom gets the tender to build the new stadium caused the whole tearing down process to be brought forward to a much much later date.

The organisers of the much fan-fare farewell who I fell badly plan the whole affair did not realising that the tendering process would not be as straightfoward as everyone thought it would be.

To me, I rather have the Lions play their matches at the Kallang Stadium for as long as they can. Jalan Besar just doesnt cut it and the capacity to hold the "Roar" (just look at SG vs Japan a few yrs back)

ha ha... people got sentimental along the way & it's still there... the waterfront gallery @ Marina Bay could then be deemed as a misalocation of resources, yes? the NDP could still be held at the national stadium...

I remember going to see a match/competition, it was said that it was the last one to be held in the Kallang Stadium..
Then I went to another match/competition, and that was said to be THE final one to be held there..
And then another match/competition came.. And another.. And another.. And..
OMG when issit gonna end!!! :???:

I think SSC must have picked up something from all those farewell tours by HK singers who can't seem to make up their minds about actually going off gently into the night....

Don't fret, Sub, she will be gone before too long, and then we will miss 'er.

i think when singapore is knocked out of the qualifier is when they will start tearing the place down.

i was there yesterday.

i hope they put out fireworks aka bombs when the place goes down.i'll be there with popcorns and crackers.

Damn, I was so heartbroken yesterday!

I was there too!

But our Old Lady will be hitting the bucket soon, so yeah...

Obviously the sports council didnt think SG wud make it so far in the WC qualifiyers - hence why they had to delay coz no other stadium can hold such a capacity crowd...

Anyaway after the Saudi match, confirm liao they can start bringing in the bulldozers .... :(

The supposedly last match to be played there was the one against Australia. But due to our unexpected progress in the WCQ rounds, it still stands to host more matches. The one against Saudi is hopefully the last one there... hahahaha

The joke is that they buried a time capsule when they first built the stadium. Apparently, after they decided to tear it down, they looked for the time capsule and couldn't find it. Till now they've not located it! Nobody seems to remember where it was buried. HAHAHAHA!!! So maybe that's why they haven't torn it down. Must find time capsule first!! :D

Dont they have pictures of the "Time Capsule Burial Ceremony"? Can roughly guess from there right?

One would think right? Dunno leh, that's what I read in the Straits Times, around the time they were planning the farewell party and all that.

Yeah, it was such a big event and no one found the capsule at the end.

Maybe it's under Kallang Leisure Park. They got their bearings wrong.

when the national stadium will be closed: after the 'next game'

what a mockery which is the FAS. during their national stadium 'closing' ceremony they did not even mention fandi ahmad, singapore's greatest football player. supporting the national team is becoming a joke
