i didn't know that it is against the law in malaysia for malaysian muslims to drink.

So singaporean muslims who go to msia to drink will get hit too?
How about purchase of alcohol for the muslims there?

Sounds funny. Pubs and clubs must suck in msia then.

i must say that everyone is getting themselves mixed up.
malaysia follows islamic law, and thus, no drinking is allowed for the malaysian muslims.
it's not the matter of choice, whether it's barbaric, or whatever, because the bottom line is, muslims are not not supposed to drink, and they should stick by that.

Taken from Wikipedia -

In the Siriono culture of South America, a girl may marry before she reaches puberty. The Murnigin girl of Australia is likely to become a wife when her breasts first begin to develop and a boy might marry for the first time when his beard begins to appear. A Lepcha girl in Tibet is sometimes married at eight years of age, while boys are often married when they are 12 years old.

Boys marry at 15 years of age or less in 10 percent of 58 societies. Another 42 percent marry between 16 and 19 years of age. Thirty-eight percent are married in their twenties, and 10 percent marry when they are 30 years of age. (Ayer) But why are people pushing their children to marry at a young age across the cultures? Scientists and psychologists made a discovery in 1963 that in traditional societies, boys and girls have usually begun to do serious work well before they reach puberty. Girls are often doing womanly work at a certain age: cooking, weaving, gardening, taking care of their siblings when they are the earliest age of six to the age of nine even earlier at three or four. Boys on the other hand, learn how to farm, herd, and hunt before they reach manhood.

Mothers and Fathers attempt their children to choose their potential loved ones, but about 70% of their decisions are their parents. Parents who fail to marry a child at the proper age are thought to be neglecting their responsibilities, with their reputations suffered. Across cultures, females tend to be married earlier than males. Boys are married later than girls in 85 percent of 45 cultures.

Please do not mistake this as condoning of any child marriages involving a man of power and a helpless child forced into the situation by poverty or other reasons.

We all need to see beyond what we see in our own little worlds, either by personal choice or otherwise (because some people only see the things they want to see and hear the thing they only want to hear) and that the world does not revolve around this little island of Singapore only.

On the subject of terrorism, I honestly will ensure I do everything that needs to be done (within the law of course), if my fellow Singaporean like Mas Selamat Kastari is found guilty beyond doubt, that he has plans and is already in the process of creating mass destruction that'll probably hurt me, my loved ones. my friends and my fellow Singaporeans.

There is no doubt about that whatsoever.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to any faith cause I'd sure as hell hate anyone to disregard my own believes . My point it , do you think the punishments met out by the Islamic courts are a little extreme and perhaps it could be revised to suit the 21st century lifestyle.

Zax bro, what does your point -

So if drinking deems one being punised by caning , what punishment does terrorism carry ? why do we still hear of religeous leaders marrying 12 year old girls and getting away with it .

have anything to do with whether I (or whoever) think the punishments meted out by the Islamic courts are a little extreme and perhaps could be revised to suit the 21st century lifestyle, as you said?

And not everyone have the same lifestyle, mind you.

Some people are born into poverty, some are born blind, some are born without legs, some are born fcuking rich, some are born with special talents, some are born genius, and some are just born stupid, and the worst thing is they stay stupid.

All this affects each individual's lifestyle without doubt.

dragging you guys back to the first post fgl posted up...

what can i say... to the guy and girl convicted... wrong place, wrong time. if both of them were to do at a different place at different times, chances are they might not been caught, sparing from tiger stripes on their butts.

I'd say the dude and the dudette were cheap haha they should have just paid the cops off . hahahaha . Eh what is the punishment for sodomy in Malaysia? or corruption e.g (embezzlement and bribery) or are those offences less serious than drinking a beer?

ok and your point is? (the 21st century is supposed to be a more open and more flexible era)

Problem is most believers of Islam doesn't want laws to change to suit 21st century american lifestyle, they want you to change or convert and follow their sharia law lifestyle,so what cha gonna do about it?
I read somewhere born muslims cannot convert to other religions in the sense that it is a grave sin to do that. But other non-muslims are welcomed with open arms and smile if you become a muslim overnight.

'Flexible' is precisely the word.

But are the reasons good enough for laws to be flexed to allow Muslims to drink in public to their hearts' content?

What are the reasons? So that one can get high and lose my inhibitions and relax and dance and be merry?

What about the individuals and families affected by drunk wife-beaters, or worse - their loved ones killed just like that because of drunk driving or rape and murder by intoxicated individuals.

No one can really judge if he or she can really control the amount of alcohol one takes in to absolutely prevent themselves from hurting others, intentionally or otherwise, and not everybody is as responsible.

Couple that with emotional and psychological instability and you have yourself a potential hazard.

So, you want the laws to be re-written to cater to your need for merriment and disregard the potential for social disorder?

Do you get my point?

ps I reiterate my personal point again - I am not against drinking if you are a responsible, thinking adult who ensures everything in his power that he will not hurt others in the process ie. don't drink and drive etc. It is perfectly fine if you know your limits.

Urging religious laws like unbanning drinking (we can't do anything if Malaysia chooses caning for offenders) is like asking Taoists to cease burning hell money for public safety or ban Thaipusam cos people are afraid that the practitioners who are in a trance may do something undesirable to another.
