French Minister says it is crucial to recover the black box. I wonder how on earth they are going to do it, when humanity currently has no idea of finding out what creatures even live at the bottom of the ocean.

I think it is about time to have a back up for the Black Box. Perhaps FAA should come up with something that can record realtime in case like this, where salvaging the Black Box will be too expensive or worst...lost!

Well it's supposed to emit signals for up to 30 days but i wonder if it survived the lightning strike, or if one of its many functions did not die out. I mean sure the black box is said to be indestructible, immortal almost. But if the strike was powerful enough to blow up a plane, surely no one can say for 100% sure that the black box came out unscathed.

Been reading up on the black box a bit, apparently electromagnetic resistance is not even mentioned in its wikipedia page. The black box is tested intensively to survive insane air/water pressure, heat levels, crash impacts and basically anything destructive. Except for something such as an insanely powerful lightning strike, which seems to be the case here.

i think the most important thing is to make the black box bouyant.. If it can float up to teh surface then its easier to spot and the signal will also be stronger. It can be done with todays technology, im sure.

They made the black box to withstand high pressures, high impacts, explosions and all those damages, but the black box has a flaw...

If only it floats.. Searching would be much easier..lol

Well, the debris that they found was NOT that of the Air France plane that went down, which even deepens the mystery.

Amazing. A plane crashed and close to a week later, absolutely zero remains of the plane is found yet. Given the current technology and all, I find this amazing and almost impossible to believe!

It's such a big coincidence that they found two bodies and a briefcase containing a plane ticket for the missing flight.

Making it float may not be a good idea. It may drift further away from the crash site making it more difficult to locate.

Not necessarily, since the black box is able to emit signals for 30 days, locating it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

And I find it almost a joke that not one single piece of debris of the plane can be found, but 2 human bodies possibly from that plane can be.

Floatin is difficult, but def not more difficult than sunk in? imgaine if a blue whale 3000 feet below ate it. and yea who knows what lives inside the ocean, dangerous aswell.

Well more and more bodies have been found. The tail stabilizer had been found too, now we''ll get to know more about why it went down.

very sad story indeed =/ and in a few hours i will be taking almost the same flight, but going from Paris CDG to Sao Paulo by airfrance to visit family during summer, everyone back home was struck and is quite worried about this happening. I am sure they went somewhere better, God bless them
