Metal Pedals that don't really color tone

I was just watching videos on youtube, demos of metal distortion pedals and stuff. Is it just me or do all of the pedals sound like they are internally set to scoop mids?? like their natural tone always sounds scooped by default??

Or do you guys know any metal pedals that don't really become scooped automatically?
not really looking for one, I just noticed it

Find metal pedals with an EQ that includes something to control the midrange. Should be able to get a less scooped EQ then.

Remember that thing we tried with the hardwire metal distortion and the JP6? We got the pedal to sound pretty analog and very tube like after a shitload of tweaking...

Only problem was, it didn't sound "metal" after that... More like a pumped up Tubescreamer! Hahahaha...

... the reason why i always advocate the amp's inherent drive/ distortion as oppossed to pedals. 8-)

Thats exactly what I'm doing at the moment and it sounds awesome. But Imagine you got a gig or you need to jam at a place where the amp does not have a lot of distortion and an overdrive pedal just wont boost it enough. I was thinking of buying a metal pedal just in case of such a thing, as backup but they all sound so damn scooped by default

technically, i dont think there be any high gain circuit in a pedal that wont colour tone, since the basis of distortion, is already pushing the signal beyond many times of itself till it break over to another level with different order harmonics and extra frequencies added in.

Anyway, perhaps to make the recommendation a lil bit clearer and more efficient, how bout naming those pedals which you have tried out and sounded scooped.

Hehe, if not, there be recommendation which sound scooped to one person and absolutely heaven to another.

Well, we did try to get a few results from this. On it's own, the TL2 managed to fulfill what we wanted. it was nice and big, warm and airy. It also could crunch very very well. It simulated the amp distortion very very well.

But then we tried getting a partiular tone from a metal track, and match it. We got that too, but when the rest of the mix was switched off, the guitar tone by itself wasn't that nice... It sounded great in the mix, but on it's own...

So even using an amp's distortion to sound great in a mix would give similar results. Great in a mix, horrible on it's own.

That said, the TL2 from Hardwire is extremely tweakable!

I didn't try any of the distortion pedals, i just saw demos on youtube. most demos start with all controls at 12 o'clock, including tone. And it all sounded scooped to me, by default, but I think the EHX nano metal muff didnt sound as scooped.
